A lot of 'factory' nav systems wont allow you to adjust them when the vehicle is in motion....

And a few shut the display off over certain speeds...

Stupid poms.... not only do they make land rovers, they also used to send kids to a penal colony in the southern hemisphere for stealing a loaf of bread. 3 years in the nick for these traffic offences? Perhaps they'll use Guantanamo Bay after (if) the septic tanks get out of there. Really - how ridiculous. Thankfully have no pommy blood in me (alas only scottish).

That's where I have mine mounted. Results in miniscule loss of vision.

What about spare wheels on bonnet????

Ive already been pinged by the fun police on this one as my gps is in a mobile phone mount (its a mobile phone) and its mounted on its sucker in the middle of my windshield at the bottom (above the ashtray in big red)

the legistlation for it is already in place under "obstructing forward vision from the driving position" type rules, the same ones they can ping you for for fluffy dice on the rear view mirror. I objected to it as the officer was giving me the spiel and let him sit in the drivers seat. He let me off on a caution for my ID strap hanging from the rearview as in the position the GPS is in you can clearly see the top of the roo bar over the top of the GPS and all its blocking is the view of the hood.

Must have been a slow day for him.

In the case of the cricket bat bashing, ... how dare that man try to stop the indigenous right-full owners of that beach trying to take life saving nectar from his cold esky....shame-shame-shame didn't he know they were probably from the stolen generation and need all the free hand outs they can get.

In the case of banning GPS units in cars....GOOD GRIEF people how can you watch a gps screen......when all of your attention should be directed to your speedo so as not to exceed the constantly changing speed limits..

Roll on the one world govement, where politacal correctness is the norm and personal freedoms are banned for the good of the minority

Check my post again, centre & middle meaning I have seen people mount them smack bang (bullseye) in the middle of the windscreen right under the rearview mirror. In the Disco, mine is mounted centre of windscreen but low resting on dash so no obstruction.

We've got them in the same place by the sounds of it...perhaps just my poor explanation.

    Has Australia gone completely mad?
you forgot the one where the age where anyone is legally capable of consenting to sexual intercourse is 16, unless the group of men she is consenting to having a gang bang with are all aboriginal (even if only dark enough to resemble a good tan), whereupon a 10yo is legally considered able to consent

its true....... white australians and aboriginals arent equal...... the whites are the ones who are disadvantaged

I think this proposed proposal for a ban is in response to people getting pinged for breaking various road rules and offering the explaination of, 'But the nav-man told me to (insert action - do a u turn, turn left/right etc)'. Also, as Dave said, they'res the obstructed view thing - but you would think common sense would prevail, event hough I'm sure in the instructions somewhere it says it's an aid and that the road rules come first....or something like that.

unfortunately a lot of proposed rules don't come from the politicians (who was it that said we get the govt's we deserve ?? ) but the bureaucrats advising them. These would be the same people that recommended 'green' P plate drivers in NSW can't tow anything and that certain vehicles are off limits of 'P' platers, including anything super or turbo charged.
Problem is that this list includes family cars like the small 'kompressor' Mercs that use a 4cyl supercharged engine that don't have the power/torque out put of the average Aussie six yet have better primary and secondary safety yet the bureaucrats won't budge.
Kids are penalised and can't drive mum's car or tow their horse to an event, yet they are able to be sent off to war.....

A journo once asked one of the mandarins in the NSW RTA what would have happened if motorcycles were only invented yesterday....
"they'd be banned instantly as unsafe..."
This is what we are up against, people.
