    G'day Folks

I remember X'mas day 74 well, we were (house full of Bikers) woken at 5am by the local plods as there were 3 or 4 of the boys in SES, and told that "Tracey" had destroyed Darwin and to report to SES at Glebe Sydney, for urgent deployment to Darwin, so with Police car escort off down Parramatta Rd 8 bikes and a sidecar outfit (Honda 4) the escort couldn't keep up,we didn't slow for anything got an earbashing when we got there those with Trade qualifications,Plumber,Elec, were loaded on to an Army truck for Richmond RAAF base (told that they would be going up on a Herc which was airlifting stores and medical supplies and would be back in about 5 days) the rest of us were put to work packing blankets, clothes, food, as it arrived, hard to do with a hangover, from the previous night, but I felt for the blokes going on the Herc stayed until midnight went home and back again for the rest of the week.

    cheers

I was in Darwin for a few years until October 74 when I was seconded to PNG. On Christmas Day in Port Moresby the radio broadcast was "big pella storm all buggarup Darwin properly". Came back in 78 when there was still a lot of ruined houses around.
Cyclone Helen has been and gone, only a lot of strong winds so this morning I was cleaning up all the branches and palm fronds and the power did not come back until nearly 1pm. But it was to pass over Adelaide River so Mark might be still sweeping out the flood waters from the front porch.
Did the rain depression wash any of those cars around the back away Mark??

    Tracey

Our family was in Darwin for Tracey. The only thing that saved all 6 of us was Dad's landrover!!!!!!!!!! House was destroyed and then storeroom colapsed so we jumped into the rover. Still have some photos of the land rover driving through piles of debri so dad could get into town where he could get communications sorted with his work mates. (He worked for the PMG in Smith street). Long time ago but wont ever forget it.

    Gaz
