    Just what I needed!

Last night whilst working my LT77 decided to completely **** itself, I can't select/engage/drive in first gear at all. I was expecting to flog the thing as is and make it someone else's problem but it never held out that long. Managed to limp home and swap cars before going back and carrying on.

I want to keep this vehicle as the engine has had a lot of work done to it and is in excellent condition, I've already spoken to two LR places in Melbourne that specialise in converting manual to automatics, but ideally I need to call back on Monday. Am I likely to get away with the whole job for $4000?

I had intentions of upgrading - but there is essentially zero equity in a discovery that isn't running - so selling it is not an option because I won't accept spare change for it.

Does anybody have or know of any 300TDI ZF4HP22s around for sale, or have one for sale?

    PLEASE HELP!

Mate I guess you've confirmed it's the gearbox - probably easy to identify when you're (trying to) drive it...

Have a look at these blokes - it's an LT-77 but I don't know if it's any different from the LR fitted versions (ratios etc) but it looks the same and for $595 appears to be reasonable. I think a an R380 would be a fair bit more expensive option.

It's in the motorsport section. Hope this helps.

Land Rovers are rubbish. I sadly miss my 1992 Turbo Diesel Land Cruiser.

Well seeing you believe Land Rovers are rubbish, strip it, sell it for parts then buy a Landcruiser

A Disco1 that isn't running is parts value only. However given that from memory it is a pre update model with over 300k on the clock then I would think that a gearbox rebuild would cost about what it is worth (running). So to fix it and flog it you would get less back for it then just wreck it as is.

If you want to fix it then I'd be looking around for a cheap complete Disco with a good LT77. Then wreck the rest of the donor Disco and try and recoup some costs.
That is if you have more room and time than spare cash.
