    Western Australian campers!

    Hey guys -

I'm looking to take the other half and her nephew on a camping trip next weekend.

I dont really know of any sites other than all the 'tourist' spots found in books and the likes.

I was hoping someone may know of some 'secret' spots they'd like to share.

    I'm looking for something;

    - with water, I have a tinny and fishing rods!
    - only a max of 3hrs drive from Perth if possible, any direction.
    - something remote would be great, I dont want to see water fountains or power outlets!!

    Much appreciated!!

    camping weekend

You could try Herron Point, just done the road from you on the Peel Inlet. Its council run with a warden, very quiet, $5 a night, boat launching, BBQ, toilet and not much else. Steve

    Hi d3funct
I like to go up to Wedge. I head past Wedge settlement, and when the track goes in behind the beach I camp somewhere on the off the track. There is no showers or toilets but its cheap(Zero $), and you have your own beach, not much good for the boat though.
    Cheers Iggy

Sandy Cape 14 kms past Jurien Bay great for a tinnie Caretaker on site great camping provided there aint millions there but there is many spots in the area to camp and there are toilets as well
The LROCWA did a big cleanup there many years ago and we were recognized for our efforts with free camping but you have to have a club sticker on your vehicle.
There are lots do see and do around the general area as well.

i'll vouch for this place. we went up last summer on brad's recomendation and though we weren't to fussed with the campsite, the following night we headed up one of the tracks that run out of the campsite and found ourselves a little secluded bay where the fishing was excellent and we didn't see a soul till we headed back out.

went to sandy cape a year or two ago nice place but book ahead if you are going on a long weekend or school hols !

Also check out the beach last time I was there you could pitch your tent on the beach instead of the campsite behind the dunes but get there early it fills up quick around holiday times.
Take plenty of sand pegs ! last time our tent blew over so we bought more pegs

    Camping spot.

Yes Sandy Cape is a good spot. The last time the cook and I went there, despite the ranger saying there were "thousands up here" and no spots left, we drove past the main camping area and found a great place 10 metres off the beach and just off the main track.
Half a dozen vehicles a day went past our camp and a boat was launched just in front of us and that was it.
Beautifully quiet, just the sounds of waves and sea gulls. Wish I was there now instead of work!
Have you met the new ranger yet Brad?
    Happy camping.

when we went up and moved further up we headed out of the campsite on a sand track heading north (up the coast). we followed that track till we came to a large clearing on the coast with a tourist sign of sorts and a tyre swing on a tree (perhaps 2/3 k's from main camp site). at the clearing we went right then left and took maybe the 2nd/3rd track off on the left that went up a slight hill under some trees before coming back down to a fork where there is a clearing on the left. this was "our bay" and there is a reef that heads out about 40/50ft into the sea where the fishing was amazing ( i caught my first snapper).
sorry if the directions are a bit vague but i'm sure there are plenty of other great spots all along that track and if you find that one dont tell too many
