please tell me im seeing things

    Santana Worldwide

This is in no small part due to the recent announcements by Land Rover that they are soon to cease production of the long running Defender series and, with Land Rover's order books full for the final production run vehicles, the Santana is making strong headway as it's replacement.

Announcement by Land Rover under whose management?

I can see the Tata produced Defender being used by Indias military as a replacement for the Indian bred jeeps, and the Indians will be enamored by its colonial charm. That should also see it break into new 3rd world markets where it is currently outpriced by Land Rovers elitism. Tata will have to get an in-house motor for it - how about the TDV6 for starters, and the TDV8 for H/Duty applications.

    ....always hoping...

if not, then we can anticipate used Defender prices will continue to increase, like in the USA.

Part of the deal with selling LR was that Ford would keep supplying engines.

I see they had a 4 litre petrol engine and a 6 cylinder diesel engine way back in their Landrover. This is what we at Leyland Truck and Bus would have loved to have got the pommie twits to do. Get some decent grunt up front to be able to compete with Toyota on a level playing field.

Pretty much, just with a different engine and a few tweaks to the body.

Have a look at their truck cab though... There's loads more space in there than a Defender. I have wondered how easy it would be to fit the Santana roof & cab rear to a Defender.
