Land Rover Scrapbook: Celebrating 60 years of a worldwide icon
18 January 2008
On the eve of Land Rover's 60th anniversary celebrations, the Land Rover Scrapbook, by company insider Mike Gould, takes the reader of a voyage of discovery through the highs, the lows, the designs and the decisions that have catapulted Land Rover vehicles from utilitarian workhorses to worldwide automotive icons.
With a foreword written by former Land Rover CEO, Bob Dover, this exceptionally well-designed, large format, glossy book is packed with over 500 glorious images including many previously unseen photos, publicity shots, period ads and even designers' sketches. It is spiced with an array of behind-the-scenes information, including the code names of secret projects, staff interviews, historical data, restoration stories, off-roading experiences and little known facts about the company, the cars and the people who steered Land Rover to success.
As a former Land Rover employee having worked in almost every department of the company, most recently as UK PR Manager; author, Mike Gould, is in a unique position to bring the history of the marque to life. He describes the book as a must for, "enthusiasts and anyone who really wants to get under the skin of Land Rover".
Discussing the book he adds, "The Scrapbook style means it can either be read coverto-cover, or delved into again and again – each time the reader is sure to find a new image, intriguing fact or snippet of information to inform and delight. Its size enables the Land Rover Scrapbook to give maximum impact to the images".
The Land Rover Scrapbook is launched by Porter Press International on 30 November 2007. Standard Edition (ISBN 978-0-9556564-0-8), large format (300x350mm/12"x14" landscape), hardback copies are priced at £34.95. A special, leather-bound, limited edition version of the book is also available (ISBN 978-0-9556564-1-5), signed by the author and first CEO under Ford, Bob Dover for £75.00.
