I'm about to go from the hunter valley mines to the WA mines. There is alot of work around,my suggestion is to start as a contractor in labour hire to get on sight and go from there. That is what I did and it is a short cut. Pat

you should also know mine owners like BHP outsource the operation of the mines to labour contract companies to avoid issues with Unions and because they are more efficient than BHP staff.

So send your resume off to more than just mining companies per se

Other than mine operators have you thought about security work on mine sites again plenty of work in those areas pay is around $25 to $29 per hour plus penalties

My son flew out yesterday for Kalgoorlie WA, he got a job as a Driller through the Local Employment agency (Campbell-Page), take your resume and approach one of these agencies in your area, if you get an interview with a company rep., dress well, my son was well dressed and he was picked over 20+ other applicants because, "his apperance impressed the interviewer" (his resume was good as well), he wore long pants, shirt and tie, the others had on board sharts, T shirts and thongs, first impressions count, hope this helps, Regards Frank.

Not entirely true. It depends on the site and union influence. Most sites employee a % of both and or specialist contractors. Here at Ravy most are directly employed by BHP (mining techs, drivers, process techs, ERT, Admin, supply, maintenance etc). We do have Westrac, Liebherr service mining equipment and are on site permanantly, Dyno Nobel blast crews and ancillary maintenance and production personnel. Other sites like KNS do similar with site like MKO, LNO a mix. Iron ore is a bit different and has a fair mix of both.
Often you may need to start with a contract labour company. For RNO, KNSC, LNO, MKO they use Chandler Mcleod recruitment. Ready workforce are another. UGR and Skilled also supply us with contract personnel. You can also find jobs on the BHP website. Seek.com is used by BHP regularly. Also get you news agent to get you copies of the Saturday West Australian. There are heaps of mining jobs in this. If you can get recruitment departments numbers and talk to recruitment on how to go about getting jobs.
    Good Luck

    Frank,
Ausdrill also have a big operational base in Kambalda. Used to and probablly still do know a lot of the guys out there. Though a few have moved on and some into Kalgoorlie with Ausdrill. You will probablly find a lot of guys commute either way.
I remember actually attending an Ausdrill roll over on the Kal-Kambalda road about 2 years ago.
    Cheers
