    Red face finding out

    hi,
    thanks for the info.
i bought the rangie in a condition to be repaired. not really mechanically minded. i'll give explaining the problems a go.
feels like it has a very bad broken leg driver front and fractured other three legs also a real loud clunk and hardly any steering may be more things wrong, really don,t know.

kin kin is very beautiful, i really love the place.
as for the part about women, a part of me wanted not to say what sex i was, so the dynamics of the sexes would be deleted. a friend said i would be being shifty if i allowed you all to think i was male.

I wasn't mechanically minded either, until i bought my Rangie in "needs repair" condition... I do it all myself now (and don't really have all the tools or the shed to do it, but i manage).

Tip: Ask LOTS of questions here. Even if your going to take it to a mechanic. I've spent too much in the past having mechanics trying to find problems at $xxx per hour, because, very often, they don't listen to your "it does this and this" comments, and think they'll pick up on everything on the 2 minute test drive.

    I'll stop ranting now

Bulldog has the right idea Shift,,,
you bought is as a fixer-upper,,
so you must have been prepared to spend some $$$

While no one here expects you to swap transfer cases,, most of us will bend over backwards to help you figure out whats wrong,, advise a likely cure, and usually a ballpark figure to repair it.

There is a cost to all this---

    Landy fever

    hi shift,
I had an old 2a diesel on the vineyard which went to Cooma last time. Then I thought wow i'd love a Rangie-have to be better than the old holden V8 ,so bought a 79 2 door knowing very little of the traps -cost me but who cares I had some great trips around the NW Vic parks with it and boy it was comfortable to drive. However it was a bit past it and was advised to buy the present vehicle-a 1998 Defender which had 80k on the clock at the time.Since done the Simpson and the left side of the country 1/2 circle towing a small van.I still love the V8 burble but the fender is just as comfortable to drive and diesel economy is great now I'm retired,

aother good one is when you drive down off of a kerb see if you can get the front left wheel and rear right wheel to come down and touch at the same time....
Hey...brilliant tip. I've got a little bit of an area at my place...will try it out.

....I'm totally new to 4x4 world. Picked up the TD5 D2 on Wednesday arvo last week. Loving it already....can't wait to start going off road a bit and actually use the low range. I've mainly driven street cars - some with performance and done a little motorkhana stuff on a skid pan - absolutely loved that. I even entered in the TD Bravo...and did pretty well. Came 2nd in the ladies comp to a V8 auto statesman by only .6 second!!

...I'll have to get some recovery gear before I go on any adventures though.
