Thread: Drowned the disco today

I know nothing about insurance, but I would be mightily surprised if they payed out on a driver related event like that.

Even if you were on a gazetted road, that means they would be liable for all mishaps or foolhardy behaviour. That would seem open to rorting to me. i.e. I'm sick of this car I'll drive it into a deep puddle and get a new one.

It's not quite the same as having an accident.........

Anyway, sorry to read of your misfortune and will be interested to see the oucome.

Hi, its not all doom and gloom with insurance companies, a workmate of mine's landcruiser was drowned in a river and the insurance company paid up. He then even bought the car back of the insurance company as a wreck.

I specifically asked my insurance company if i was covered in national parks and river crossing, and they emailed me an answer (which i have tucked away for a wet day) that said I was as long as its on a legal track including correct river fording locations.

Don't want to test them though!

A guy I know drowned his less that 12 month old 90 up on Cape York.
No panel damage but insurance company replaced it with a brand new 90.

My insurance paid out on this - back when it was actually worth insuring a rrc (that's me).



Another friend rolled a 70 series ute on Moreton, with a number of contributing factors - all stupid. Insurance paid up happily.

I know they will pay out when you put petrol in a diesel Disco 3 doing up to $20 000 dollars worth of damage. That would be a driver related event.

Would that have been MJ? drowning his 90 trying to help someone else? if so i heard the story,, sounds like it run for a fairly long time in deep water before it stoped...

We drowned our Explorer in the Wollindilly River at the old driver training ground owned by the Nature Retreat (nudey camp) the insurance company paid us out, as long as he was on a gazetted road he can claim and should get paid out.

I would be finding out first if the road through the land is a gazetted road, then go from there.
