    Goodbye to the Landy

    Hello all,

Well after 3 years and 40,000 kms the landy is traded in. We are awaiting delivery of a new Patrol.

Why? The reason we are leaving the landy is due to supply problems for those of us living in remote areas.
    1) Tyres - due to the unique size you have to wait for tyres to be freighted in. Can get a spare immediately for Nissan/Tojo.
    2) Coolant - Due to the special coolant I have to order mine in through the local AutoPro. They didnt believe me the first time I enquired.
    3) Electrics - Having a vehicle go into total lockdown for no reason and have to jump through hoops to get solutions. Pathetic. Continually having lights on the dash due to no reason.
    4) Accessories - Try buying a roof rack, duel battery system without forking out a fortune for freight.
    5) Oil leaks - My landy can't go 6mths without finding a new way to leak oil!!
    6) Size - A little bit on the small side for a growing family

    Good points -
    1) Economy - 11lt/100km whilst towing a trailer is magnificent.
    2) Comfort and features - Very confortable to tour in. The climate control aircon is brilliant with the 2 zones. The stereo systems as standard are probably the best in the business. The cabin noise is minimal.

Quite frankly I dont blame you with scant dealership coverage for modern complex vehicles I cant see how you could do much more.
Landys sadly are becoming something good to own if you live east of the great dividing range. Either that or its an oldie that you can work on yourself
Hope the Patrol Serves you well

    1) Tyres - due to the unique size you have to wait for tyres to be freighted in. Can get a spare immediately for Nissan/Tojo. Never seen this as an issue and lot's of friends with Tojo's and Nissan's still have to wait for tyres to come in
    2) Coolant - Due to the special coolant I have to order mine in through the local AutoPro. They didnt believe me the first time I enquired. Buy CAT ELT from the local CAT dealer who supplies the Mine equipment, can also get a Castrol equivalent but was dearer
    3) Electrics - Having a vehicle go into total lockdown for no reason and have to jump through hoops to get solutions. Pathetic. Continually having lights on the dash due to no reason. No argument, had to buy RovaCom Lite, but now I fix my own issues and other peoples too. Never had the 3 amigo's (yet)
    4) Accessories - Try buying a roof rack, duel battery system without forking out a fortune for freight. Wait until you price a Patrol or Cruiser accessory, from what I've seen they are often more expensive. As for frieght, that's added to everything up here, so an accessory is an accessory and they all incur freight costs.
    5) Oil leaks - My landy can't go 6mths without finding a new way to leak oil!! Nearly 5 years and no leaks... Is something wrong with my Disco?
    6) Size - A little bit on the small side for a growing family

Good luck with the new Patrol. Certainly a lot more space than a Disco2, though I don't find them as comfortable.

Don't get me started on Land Rover Australia and service agents and dealerships. Who would expect anyone to by a 4WD that lives in a remote area Obviously not Land Rover's marketing people!

mate all the best with the new Nissan!!

ln a way l don't blame you, the only real grip l have with the disco a the mo is the bloody leaks and I'm really ****ed at the moment because cant buy an "off the shelf" 3" lift for the bloody thing
the last quote l got for konis and kings was $1800 jjjeeesss a 3" lift for my old GU was only $1200 installed for god sake

anyway all the best, and now you will have to haunt a decent Nissan forum! trust me they arent as good as this one

I never go to authorised dealers trust your independent mechanic and source the parts from independent supplier. There is nothing in cheaper than Land Rover if you know your ways around.
good luck with the Patrol and I hope that is the 4.2 turbo model.
Have Valium ready when you price the spares for it.
    Cheers

a mate of mine has a 4.2 TD GU (II?) ute. It is a beauty.

His Dad bought a 3lt TD wagon at the same time. It has had a rebuild an another engine. I don't know the details. He would get a 4.2 in it but that means new wiring, 'puter, gearbox as well. He likes it when it goes, but it is unreliable
