Personally, I agree that it should have been left on the field. And I think in the past the Aussies would have let Singh's comments pass.
But I think their attitude changed when when Lehman was cited and suspended for racial villification a few years ago - they decided they would react similarly if the same thing happened to them. Although the first time Singh called Symonds a monkey (during the one dayers last year), Symonds approached him after the game and the matter was settled without any citings or official investigation, with Singh supposedly promising not to use the term again. So maybe it's fair that they made an official complaint this time...
But what annoys me most is the Indians threat to call off the tour if he was suspended. It seems to be a typical reaction from the sub-continent nations. The Paki's did it last year when Inzamam took the team off the field against England when they were accused of ball tampering, and Sri Lanka threatened a walk off when Murali was called for chucking years ago. Bloody pathetic if you ask me ...
