When I was at the land rover experience centre at malvern castle just before christmas, my instructor told me that the d3 would be available with the tdv8 that currently is available in the range rover some time in 2008.
He also talked about a new twin turbo v8 diesel for the range rover. Apparently the engineers had been told to come up with the most powerful engine they could and then test it and see what broke. Then they would work out what broke and re-engineer that part. The end result was to be a engine that was found to be as powerful as possible yet wouldn't break.
Anyway they came out with a land rover to malverns with the new engine fitted to take around the test tracks and the engine put out about 900 horsepower. There problem is they keep on twisting the rear driveshaft, and are trying to come up with a new one that can handle the power. They expected the reliable engine to be putting out around 700 horses.
Funnily enough this conversation was just after the one about how whoosy the g4 challange is and how land rover has to be seen to be eco friendly, not encouraging fuel guzzlers etc.
