I've got an old ARB to run the lockers so I have found it hard to justify having 2 compressors on board. Its very very slow for day tripping to bring 35's from 15psi up to road pressures but fine for touring etc where time isn't so important and pressure changes are not so great.

Troy, I am so pleased to hear OLMATE has an engine mounted. I did think it might have been a peddle car .

You'll probably find the engine is a UK brand, like the vehicle.

    I have a Bushranger Power-Air I got from a 4WD Monthly subscription deal.
Very happy with it,its only small put isnt too much slower than some of the bigger compressors others use.

I watched a twin tongue in action a couple of years ago which was used to reseat at 31x10.5-15 and inflate to full pressure. Stunning how fast it was.

mmm keep then coming boys, I'm using this thread as a means of determining if three half decent compressors over a few years are better than buying one that is worth five times the price ?

    cheers

I have an ARB old design, slow but reliable. All parts are available and cheap, so old ones can be rebuilt fairly easily.

I also have an $89 max air copy from BigW. punished the hell out of it (like running it for an hour @ 35psi which didn't kill it, that was 3 years ago, still runs, but is of poor quality.

The main one i use these days, the trusty MAX AIR. Love it. Fast reliable.

I use it with a 9 litre water fire extinghuiser tank. it takes about 6-7 mins to inflate the tank, which i do whilst driving around(it used to be mounted in my prado will go under the tray of SIIA Ute) and can inflate a tyre as fast as a home compressor, the tank reserve normally gets 2 1/2 tyres meaning air up is minimal time. I also use a proper inflator unlike the ARB ones that have no tap etc so constantly blow air (meaning the tank isn't re filling between tyres.

but its buggered now(7yrs), the single piston has worn out and on a funny angle
the sleeve is also stuffed, so its un fixable.........

but the word around at the moment is their new model is supposed to be up there with The Big Red compressor ..............

    hmmmmmmmmm we'll see

See above, they are all savable. Check out my article on rebuilding them.:

Lastly, an air transfer hose to use your spare @ 65psi (max inflation pressure) to top up back 2 tyres from say, 20 - 36 psi...

    I'm glad to hear it.

I've had my Max Air for a couple of years but it hasn't done much work. I was forever killing the little cheapies.
