V6 petrol volume seller? Hard to beleive as the majority of the european market would be deisel. American market may be slighlty different but D3 would have to many competiors there to be a big seller. Most of the ones i see here are tdv6 too. Middle eat market would be too small to have an impact. Just a case of the wool being pulled over our eyes i think. Deisel engine maybe more expensive too produce though.

There was an S version V6 in 2005 I think but not anymore and I suspect it's this one that has the lower resale.

I've got the V6SE and love it to bits. 64k on the road which is at absolute best 12k less than the diesel.

Around town my mate's TDV6 SE (which he paid 84k for) gets 13l/100 while I get 16l/100.

The question is really do you want to pay the premium for the superior range (and towing capability) as the best I can get on the hwy is 11.6l/100 while the TDV6 gets down to 7s I think.

If it's a 95% town car and 5% 4WD, then the V6SE is just too good a deal given the capabilities of the vehicle.

....in my humble but biased opinion

Oh...and the reviewers canned the V6 but I really think they were just anti-Ford. The motor works fine, a tad noisy on acceleration and won't win any races but at 2.8 ton, would you expect to?

The V6 Petrol Disco 3 is not available in Europe. I think the reference to volume was the fact that it's the Ford Explorer engine they use.

Try $18K less - it's a real bargain at the moment. Let's face it, whichever engine you get you're still getting a Disco 3 which is an amazing car!

Who has driven an Mpi Discovery 1? What was it like? To me it would be a logical option if you wanted near diesel economy minus TDI noise.

I have never even seen one, much less driven one (not available in Australia) but by all accounts they were / are a complete dog. Not enough engine pushing a heavy vehicle = poor economy and poor performance.

Yep, that is what I was talking about. I am sure they have produced millions of those boat anchors.... I mean engines.

A friend of mine drove his colleague's V6 down to Margaret River and really enjoyed it. I was surprised because he was underwhelmed by the TDV6! This was on road driving only.

    Curious!
Mine was only an on road test drive too, but the torque of the diesel stunned me, and I was far more impressed with the diesel all round, quieter too!

The salesman said the optional sidesteps were rocksliders that were engineered to protect the car sills but I smelled a furphy...or did I?
    Does anyone know?

    SNIP...
    .
That sounds pretty close to me, I've got a new TDV6SE on order as a novated lease and it came in a tad over $85K with a locking Diff and upgraded sound as well as metallic paint.
