I steamed some Salmon steaks last weekend in foil with loads of garlic, ginger and herbs..the house was smelling very nice !
Served it all up with a side of steamed veg and boiled tatties ...
All looking good and very presentable..:)
Youngest son sits down and looks at it..then proceeds to cover the whole lot in tomato ketchup !..:o ..then oldest son thinks this is good idea and proceeds to copy younger brother plus get a large turkish bread roll and place entire contents of plate into said roll !..:o
It felt like I was sitting in the monkey pen at Taronga zoo at tea time !..
Why did I bother making it all look nice and appetizing ??..
Kids..gotta love them
Beans on toast tonight !
cheers,
Richard
My favourite is probably the salt and pepper squid served in the fron tbar at the Earl of Leicster pub in Leicster Street, Parkside in Adelaide.
It is a must have for me whenever I head back to SA, just brilliant and a huge serve size for a very reasonable price. Factor in a few beers and attractive bar staff :D and it is a meal fit for a King
.
This thread has made me really hungry for some fish!
My best fish and chips is home made, but I live in hope of finding a good fishanchippie!
Most insulting Fishanchippie has to be on Oxford Street Leederville Perth.
Ordered a piece of snapper and small chips (3 choices, S M L), paid $15.50 and got a burnt piece of fish where the batter was charred in colour, and burnt underdone chips that were crunchy like apples but get this.....there were 7 chips! Spuds around here for commercial purchases are under 1:50 a kilo!
I politely pointed out that the oil was much too hot (being wise to the cooking trade) and got a tirade telling me this is how he did it for all his customers and they were happy.
I responded in kind asking which was likelier: That the entire population of Leederville were tasteless imbeciles who would spend heaps on scorched food despite having grown up eating fine examples of it..... or that he was a wannabe businessman who didn't have the intelligence to create value or treat a customer appropriately........ got my money back and had a laugh, got a vegetarian pasty up the road.
Salt & Pepper Calamari salad at JD's bar in Merimbula is my pick for squid.
Worst was fish & chips in Orient point. Grey fish, grey chips, grey scallops - all indistinguishable from each other in looks, texture and taste.
But it was a bucks night so non of us cared too much
Most fish is good it depends how it is cooked, when it is cooked and your personal taste.
Salmon is great fresh caught or smoked or in patties if older.
King George is great anytime (one in the fridge caught last night).
Also a Black Bream and they are ok.
Even rock cod is ok if you steam it.
Trumpeter which most through back is yummy fresh.
As said some fish is better fresh, while some freezes well.
Where do you stop. All the above (except slimy rock cod for me) plus gummy shark, bronzey, swallowtail, black arsed cod, nanagai, etc etc
