03 facelift (ie the small round lights and cdl?) model? i think most issues had been sorted by then, or at least less susceptible.

the light scuff on the bumper sounds a bit dodgy... i wouldnt buy it i need a bit more damage than that to justify knocking the price down a stack!

if it is facelift and history and a check comes out ok.. and its the right price then it should be an ok buy... but as with anything car related ... things can still go wrong!

Yep its the update model, has CDL, new lights etc. Would be buying it with a 3 yr warranty and getting tyres changed as well.

What sort of money are they asking for, if you don't mind?

They do have it on for $39,999 but I wouldnt buy it at that price, would go early 30's. Will know one way or the other this afternoon,

the facelifts normally go for more.. but thats excessive... mines a 2002 non facelift (obviously) no ace but everything else (except cdl).. same k's and full dealer history... i paid 21k 18 months ago... mind you it was a good price...

with a 3 year warranty especially if its one worth the paper its written on... at least you have peace of mind... and new tyres saves you a grand..

Yeah I know, but wouldnt pay that, have done a bit of research on a fair and reasonable price. If you want a V8, there are heaps around, bloody good prices. Was weighing up V8 fuel and lower price versus TD5 fuel and higher price. With the amount of km's I do the diesel is better suited, though will miss the V8....for now anyway ,

They are a good motor so don't be scared by what you read.
There has been a lot of scaremongering about Td5's (not just on forums), but they are a good motor. We deal with 100's Td5 on a daily basis (not a 100 a day 1or 2 a day) and yes we have replaced heads /gaskets, harness, oil coolers, fuel blocks, rebuilt engines cos of oil pump bolts the list goes on. However saying all that it is only a small percentage of the total Td5 out there. As for people saying the electrics are no good, the Td5 electric system is great and easy to work with (If you have a diagnostic system, which goes for all new vehicles these days). I would say the 2AM system on early V8 is a horrible system but you hardly hear boo from people with early classics.
Again a lot of the problems are teething problem all new motors/vehicles have and by 2002 (2A VIN) these problems have usually been fixed.
If any Land Rover engine deserves a bad name its the 1.8K and KV6 in the Freelanders. We have had nothing but problems with these engines.
So in the end from some one who sees them every day. They are a good motor IMHO.

Oh and yes I don't own one because I love my Classic and Hybrid and V8's ...but I wouldn't have a problem with owning one.

Good info, never had a diesel before, so I can see me asking a few questions, most likely get one of my diesel/ mechanic savvy club members to show me a few things as well...like general maintenance.
