It isn't so clear though in passenger cars as fuel efficient petrols aren't that far behind the diesels and often they cost significantly more. I drove to nambour and back Thursday with a little running around at each end and averaged 45MPG or 6.3 l/100. All sitting on the speed limit with the AC on :) Thats a 1.8l turbo petrol.

Agree, currently i'm spending around $200 a week on fuel for my work car (vz one tonner), when i change to the VW transporter soon, my fuel bill should drop to around $120 per week, servicing should be around twice a year, as apposed to 4 times a year now. And i'll trade when the warranty runs out:D

In 5 years time you'll be able to trade a 380 for a packet of chips. Remember the magna and the massive depriciation they had. That said i found the 380 RX to be very plasticy and the falcons are still just a glorified taxi with weak diffs. I would be looking very closely at a VW.

Fair call. :) Extra maintenance will eat into the savings but the way fuel is going I'm not sure there will be much of a choice soon.

Exactly! Actually I've got a suspicion that within 5 years you won't be able to give bigger cars away.

The redbook says the 3 year retained value on an xr6 is 44%. Wheels can't print a resale rating for the 380 because there isn't enough room in the column for a -. The Golf residuals are aroung 62%.

And SS utes and 79 series Troopy's have some of the best resale around;)

Thats right, but i'd rather a Euro car than them, at least they have good economy, i'm sick of 16l/100, bring on 8-9l/100 i say:)
