Anyone own a Mitsubishi 380 ?

I don't own one but I have driven a few as hire cars, most very new with low ks on them.

One in particular I remember as lacking power up hills and may be explained by some of the earlier comments re slipping. It certainly had something wrong in the engine / drive department.

But the most consistent and annoying thing about them all was the abysmal rear vision - huge blind spots out the back on both sides when looking over left or right shoulders preparing to change lanes.

For this reason alone I would not buy one. I found driving them to be an unpleasant experience in heavy traffic because of the vision problem.

Just my opinion, if you like them, can get one at the right price and understand the depreciation implications then go for it.

Im not sure if you have driven one, but the Toy Aurions are meant to be a very nice car, and VERY well designed. A number of my automotive engineering journals have featured them a number of times.

the other options on the 380's is to gte lpg. Maybe your not keen on it however. But Mitsubishi i think still allow warranty or some such thing where as other companies take a harder line.

The 380 is a Mitsubishi and a decent of the Magna. Enough said.

I have had a right royal rooting with electronic and electrical problems with my late Falcon. Held me up roadside with electronic failures on seven occasions. I call it the "two-in-one". The first Falcon and the bloody last. Of course after all these problems occurred, all my old mates in the trade, said "didn't you know about that, they are notorious". Perhaps I should have asked around first.

A friend has a late VW diesel which he reckoned was a bloody marvellous car until it pooped itself at Mt. Isa. He is self-employed and it is his business ride. He lives at Beerwah on the Sunshine Coast hinterland, over 1000 miles from Mt. Isa. Mt. Isa dealer could not diagnose, fix, or supply parts. Two other workshops in Mt. Isa had a go but lacked equipment and knowledge. He was told that "no-one out here would buy anything that complicated, no good in the bush". Car had to be transported to Brisbane for repairs. Got it back six weeks alter. VW were good and supplied a loan car. He is now in the "two-in-one" frame of mind.

A neighbour has one, He is sick of warranty probs and poor service, and the fuel bill, and the auto trans, and the huge blind spots, and to add insult to injury, he has the horrendous depreciation to deal with, He just wants to see the back of it!!:mad:

The plusses are that it has a great chassis and handling he reckons, brakes are good on his, and the power is more than adequate:cool:

I wouldn't buy one. I'm a euro car kid. Give me a Pug Hdi or Golf/ Passat diesel anyday. Even a Saab 95 or Volvo T5R (Already depreciated ,used of course) is good value for safety ratings and performance.

I wouldn't give 30c for Holden commodores , Ford XR's etc, as they are just glorified taxis and not worthy of the 'performance' monica. Embarrassing for the oz motoring industry I feel. There is very little engineering prowess and thought in these vehicles, you only have to see what happens to them and the occupants in the event of a relativlely small impact to feel uneasy about driving one.:(

I await the backlash from some for these comments....:o

Well if you want slanty how about a Mazda 3 or 6 diesel? $30k-$35k.

As to the VW is no good in the bush because one had an engine failure...I can see the persons position on it. However...

The only thing that concerns me with the Mitsubishing is they stopped making them here, wheres the future spares come from? will Mitsubishi Japan keep up the spares for the Magna coz remember the magna is a wholly Australian desinged and made creature, if the Japs keeps the spares going then no reason to not look at a 380 they are a fine car

Funny, I know it's a Toyota, but inside it stinks of european -ness:o

Very Mercedes-benz in a lot of ways, but with jap reliability and quite a simple car compared to some of the latest offerings from Lexus...

I drove a 560SEL a while ago, seamless surge of torque etc, and deceptively quick for such a big car.:cool:

These are underrated , but most woiuldn't want the fuel bill for town driving:o On the highway, about 12l/100km, which is very acceptable for a big car, that costs 20K less than some new Ford rubbish, and outlives, out drives and out everythings anything we can build in this country.:mad:
