That's why I had to let my V8 go and got a diesel/LPG. Older but much cheaper. I average 8.3 ltrs/100k now.![]()
I've just looked at my data (I track all fuel and other expenditure on my cars) and these are the figures for the P38A since I bought it in May 2002 (nearly 6 years):
107,019 km travelled
23,778 litres of LPG and petrol (combined total)
Average fuel economy 20.7 litres/100km
Average fuel cost (LPG and Petrol) 57.7 cents/litre
Total cost $13,402
Approx cost per annum $2234
Approx cost per month $191 (70 months not 72)
Cost per km 12.5 cents

Wow, very interesting. It sort of puts the whole oil crisis in perspective when one person can use over 20,000 litres of fuel. I do realise your mostly on LPG but another person who has not converted well... Especially when I consider I run as many if not quite a bit more km's as you P.A.
So do you always run lpg Ron?
Xav
Good point Ron. I have only had her a couple of months and pay around $1.50 a litre. They don't seem to have the same discount cycle on diesel. I'm still a very happy chappy though.
Wasn't trying to be critical.
Well, lets see.
average 8.3 ltrs/100k
In Queensland Diesel is often $1.30 to $1.40 a litre.
That is 10.8 cents a km. Easter it was $1.55 in places, which was 12.8 cents a litre.
On top of that, the diesel has increased cost of servicing and no where near the power of a V8
Not only that, the sound of an oiler has nothing on the roar of a V8
Cheers,
The other Ron
No, it didn't think you were. Is the 8.3 the combined fuel consumption of LPG and diesel? I only get about 10-11 litres/100km with the 300Tdi Disco.
I towed my son's caravan from Dubbo to Penrith (350km) with the Disco and it was a struggle up some hills. I averaged 14.5 litres/100 km.
I towed the same van to Cooma and back (390 km each way) and cruised a lot of it at 100-110km/h and didn't struggle up hills. I averaged 30 litres/100 km on LPG alone. The LPG price was less than half the price of diesel.
The big advantage ogf the diesel is the range on a single fill.

Xavie, yes I mainly use LPG - except for the time it was pulled out as I'd got sick of backfiring, having to change back to petrol up steep hills, etc. I ripped it out and ran only petrol. When a sequential injection system came available for the car, I had that installed.
