Maybe just maybe landrover pulled out of this test because if you remember last time the disco headed out it failed and the 100 series won.

And the people at 4wd Monthly had to wait several hours for landrover to come and fix it and now you are baging them

So if you all hated the second dvd so much why did you whtch it?????

Still doesn't explain why they broke the rules and allowed the H3 but didn't allow the defender

I really don't want to spark an arguement, I just think it would have been a lot more believable if they had just had some rules they stuck to. ie, diesel wagon, auto wagon, etc. By claiming that the rules were diesel/auto/wagon and then allowing the H3 to compete they made themselves out to be hypocrites. If the additional rule of $60k and over was in force, why let the jeep in either?

If you're going to have rules, stick to em

It appears that certain brands paid them good $$$ to get in around the rules. Perhaps LR just didn't pay enough

That crossed my mind - whether or not they attempted as deep water with the Toy.

My conclusion is that the Toy is best in the hands of a complete & utter novice. I.e one of the test drivers. That's who all the gizmos seemed to be aimed at.

Personally I found the second DVD to be an advert too. I won't be buying the magazine anymore either.

A point of discussion; if you take Landrover sales as a proportion of all 4wd sales, it would probably be very small market share compared to the Japanese vehicles. So you would expect that Landrover would get less airplay, as the mag needs to cater for the demographic of the wider 4WD fraternity?

I don’t think they bag Landrover really, and last year the Disco failed – we can’t deny that. I wish it hadn’t but it did. However they did have a big article around the 130 this month, and on the Forum they have called for Landrover owners to tell them about their rigs. However the article had great pics, but poor commentary, really only covering the upgrades.

As for the forum itself from time to time there is some Landrover bashing that goes on, but no more than any other forum I have been on (except this one of course). In fact, I can remember threads even here where people have bashed the D3 for being unreliable, and this is the home of Landrover lovers.

For me – the worse part of the whole thing was choosing the $80K Cruiser as better value than the $60K Nissan. That is just ridiculous. I really just want the journalism to be unbiased, which we don’t get with 4WD mag…

I noticed a few of you said the english ones are full of ads but are they obvious ads? What I mean is in every article of 4wd monthly it has an advertisement or endorsement from them but as soon as the next issue comes out it was like a different brand offered more money so they then endorse that product. It made me feel that a fair comparison was never possible with this mag.

the UK ones aren't as blatant as the mag under discussion...

LROI for example have articles sponsored by britpart on mechanical repairs...

4WD action has (for example) articles sponsored by supercheap where every second sentence informes you of the great value, cheap prices and high quality of all things "supercheap"... in days not too long ago, the same mag described buying items from your local supercrap... that said, there is one product that is flogged endlessly by a certain Mr Rooth that really seems not to advertise at all - Lanotec!

occasionally they have good, unbiased test articles - think of the fridge comparison, the snatch strap comparison etc etc... they even had brands that don't advertise within the test *shock*.

Journalism it aint, but popular it is...

give me the british landie mags anyday, at least the ads are relevant to me as they are for accessories I could use in my vehicle unlike the toilet paper that consitutes 4WD action.

And to think I was thinking of applying for a job with them as a 4WD journo.

I wouldn't be able to come back here!

I haven't read the mag for a while. I still a have two years worth of my last subs that I haven't read.

I wouldn't worry too much, they'll soon find out that you can't write glowing reviews because everything you touch breaks!!
