I stopped buying it after the web forum fiasco, but the poor quality journalism was already bringing me more slowly to the same decision. I've gone back to bringing in the UK Landy mags.
Has anyone else read the 4WD Action mag or watched the latest DVD's in this months edition? What a crock!!! How the hell do we suddenly pit a $60K 3.0L pootrol against a $80K brand new cruiser?I was under the impression in last months mag that the contenders had to be diesel auto wagons sub $60,000.
So not only do they break those rules last month by adding the petrol engined hummer H3 (but still not including the td4 defender), but now they're putting the supposed 'winner' of last month up against a car that sells for $20 grand more, just because it's the new model of the last winner (100 series).
This is on top of the bagging Glenn Wright was giving his rangie when I was chatting to him at Cooma. Of all places to be sledging a Land Rover!
I think that may be the last time I buy this rubbish, think I'll stick to Overlander...

I stopped buying it when I realised the only reason the magazine existed was for product placement.
One day they had one radio in their truck which was the best available and next issue it was a different brand and they were talking that one up and how it's better then the previous one they had.
All I was paying for was advertisements and I can look up web pages for that.
But I saw the comparison you speak of and didn't watch it after I noticed exactly what you are saying.

For starters: I'd only recently got my disco and I'd told him that was the case. He was saying I'd have a hard time doing the motorkana without damaging it as it didn't have suspension mods. I'm guessing I need 5-6" of lift and 35" muddies like all their cool custom trucks(I proceeded to cruise around and only lightly scraped the towbar once
). He was then saying he wasn't keen on LR's because of his concerns with reliability. I was a little taken aback but asked him how his 'Project Rangie' was going anyway. He said something like it just wasn't good enough, words such as 'reliabilty', etc came up again and said he was thinking about changing it for something else.
By that stage I'd zoned out like I do while watching the sections of their DVD's where they hoon around in the dangerously lifted, illegally lit, POS custom jap rigs![]()
I've also stopped buying the Mag for similar reasons.
Every new mag says it has 250+ pages of action... more like 200+ pages of advertising, 40 pages of nonsense which leaves about 10 pages i actually enjoy reading. I get more info and satisfaction out of this forum in a day than I have got out of that mag in a year, so I'm out. I'll admit sometimes they have a decent article, but i have to agree with the previous comments on this thread.....
I also read and watched their 4x4 fight, challenge or whatever. Yep, they broke their rules, maybe they ommitted the Defender cause it would have left the rest for dead and ruined their too close to call challenge. Anyway, I'm on the hunt for a new 4x4 mag... any suggestions

I've just finished reading the Feb '08 issue of "Land Rover Enthusiast" published in the UK. A good trip report about the Vic High Country, but too many ads at the back for my liking. However, if your into LR military trailers and vintage Series LR's, then this issue is a must, probably 20+ pages just on this stuff.
I tend to only look for the UK LR mags, then decide on the day after flicking through all of them.![]()
They left out the fender because it was a manual and you can't buy an auto in it.
The comp is for family touring and they have to be auto and above 60k (the jeep was the only one that was less)
I have sub to all the english mags in the past and yes they are good but they are also full of adds just like 4WD monthly. Also the other mags like Overlander and such I just don't enjoy reading they come across as bland.
If you go to there web site you will see that they don't bag landrovers all the time and they do bag each others us will. I go on there every day to have a look around and have never see any such thing happen.
And yes I do sub to there mag I like it

I'm with all of the above...but the bit that really got me was that with this months mag they gave you not 1... but 2 DVD's!.... what they didn't tell you was that the second one is a 20 minute ad for the new 200 Cruiser driven and narrated by the editor!
I've sent emails showing my disgust and will not be renewing my sub (it just expired so I guess I'll get to enjoy some nagging telemarketers over the next few weeks.... they'll wish they hadn't rung![]()
D4 SDV6, a blank canvas
Tell me about it! Almost made me sick
No wonder Glenn wasn't too keen on LR's at easter, he'd just got back from the Cape and his pockets were full of Toymota advertising $$$$$
Be interesting to read what he puts in next months mag about CoomaMight have to buy one last edition just to see what is said....
