Defenders to be Built in New Delhi

Was just reading the rss news feeds and there are rumours that Tata will be building Defenders in New Delhi for the Indian Army. More models for Jaguar and Land Rover - Latest Car News from 4Car

One wonders if this will be a new hope that the price of a Deefer landed in Oz will come down?

    Lets hope so anyway.

Tata is also re starting the knock down kits on the entire defender range, for anybody, not just authorised assemlers, so you should be able to order a few box's of bits and build your own! then you'll only have yourself to blame for the build quality!!!!!

i imagine we'll end up with some amusing looking landies, and lots of post along the lines of does anybody know where this bit goes etc!

    Build quality
Sat in a Brand New Defender wagon last week that you could see the ground out through the bottom of the doors (oh yes and they were closed)

Doubt if it could be much worse

Atleast they've used lots of cable ties in the engine bay, the little bracket that holds the loom is a classic, looks like something I'd fold up for a conversion, except worse

Then look at a mahindra ute, its better...........far better build quality, but its still crap, the ONLY vhicle which still maintains, top build quality is Toyota, nearly everything is built in Thailand now

    They are Korean, not Indian.

Have you sat in a British-made vehicle?

This sounds like Australia in the 1950s - the build quality around the various assemblers varied so greatly they built a new factory in Enfield so that there could only be one build quality. (Don't know if it was much better though.)

Although if retail buyers can get a CKD kit it solves the problem of having local dealers! You would have to take it back to yourself for the warranty claim!

I would live to be able to buy a defender as a kit to build at home. think of the savings buying it in pieces and doing it yourself!!!!!!!!!!!
