    New Defender Manual

    Hi All

Is there any sort of maintenance instructions for the new Fenders floating around yet?
My owners manual does not give any maintenance advise as far as the routine stuff like greasing of prop shaft and u-j's, checking and changing of oils etc.
I don't trust the 20 000km service as sufficient and want to do an inbetween service myself as well as the other usual checks.
I am used to doing everything myself on my Series III and hate worrying about my new Defender which looks a lot more complex.
    Any advise out there.
    Thanks
    James

    Hi James,

The usual place to find this would be Haynes.

    www.haynes.co.uk

They have the service manuals for Defenders up to 2007.

    In the FAQ's was this:

I can't find a manual for my vehicle (car, van, motorcycle)?
Two possible reasons: it is too new, or the model range has not sold sufficiently well. We don't normally produce manuals for vehicles less than 2 years old, because for the most part they are still under warranty and being serviced by dealers. And we can't consider doing a manual until there are enough of a particular model on the road for us to be sure of covering our costs.
...guess we shouldn't be holding our collective breath.

I'll send them an email though.

Hi on a different note i was speaking to some South African's today who said that Landys seem to have major gearbox problems in South Africa and they now use Toyotas for just about everything, is this true cause i always thought you guys all loved Landys over there?

    no ways

    Not a chance.
Still plenty sound Landies about although Toyota are a large force but mainly the big ass cruisers for the luxury market.
Not heard too many gearbox issues except the 2,8 TDi with the gearbxx output splines shearing on the clutch plate.
I must say I have driven around RSA quite a bit and there seems to be a big shift to Mahindra and Tata in the farming comunity.
Saw a lany here the other day with a big Tata sticker on the back for a laugh.
    Cheers

    Haynes Manuals

    Response from Haynes:

    Dear Mr England

    Thank you for your email.

The manual covers up to 2007 (56 plate).

Unfortunately we have no plans to update the manual within the next 12 to 18 months.

    Kind regards

Not quite so funny, now that TATA own the LR franchise.

    Thanks for the info.
Pity. Will have to leave it to the agents for now.

You can always subscribe to GTR if you really want the information.

If you PM me an email address, I can send you a copy of the maintenance schedule.
