Strange then, that Codans 6924 (30 watt) sets used to work.

The one I used to own 20 odd years ago had no problems transmitting Syd - Adelaide, Syd to Innaminka etc and I'm talking from a suburban back yard with a long wire strung through the bushes.

Don't get me wrong 100 watt is better, but it doesn't mean lower power is no good.

following this with interest - I need to acquire a HF and from my earlier post you cansee I was considering Q-Mac

any other actual experinces with less than 100w would also be interesting

Bushie it all comes down to the antena u use and like you said the long wire strung between the trees mate this is the best form of antena next is the marconi and the best place to find info on the types of antena is on one of the ham sites ....

Anyone with a HF raido should carry a longwire as back up there simple to set up and will work strung up on a tree from your vehcile or between to vehciles ...
