As said earler putting string at head height is not on, definately worth a courtesy call to the police. Hopefully they'll watch out since this despicable act is a big issue still, (remember the little girl who rode into some wire at head height recently).

Easy on this one though, she may have driven there in her V8 Landy

Yes we have all the photographic evidence and police may follow it up if we can identify the woman. I know her by sight and the car she drives - not by name... The president of the cycle club is following up - looks a messy time for a while....

The group goes by the name of WAM walkers against mountain bikes.

Sounds like a Pedestrian Council look alike.

Hope that no one gets injured as a result of such stupidity.

Putting logs across single tracks has also been happening on some single track I use to get back home via Churchill NP after riding in Lysterfield. Came across this stupid action on a night ride last Wed - lucky I spotted it on a downhill and jumped it.

Thanks everyone. I don't ride with the local club - no time as i'm usually at work but I've seen what a great facility and sport is emerging. Last weekend 59 riders competed and the sport is growing, healthy and in my mind has low environmental impact. It engenders good sportsmanship and friendship. The young kids that are now starting are really enthusiastic - better for them than sitting in front of the TV or xbox. To see this facility maligned and damaged is heart wrenching. Sorry to interrupt LR conversation....

What she was doing is illegal - simple as that. She was almost certainly in breach of the applicable Criminal Code, various environmental and land management laws and possibly local government regulations.

To make sure these people are prosecuted you need hard evidence. I usually carry a small digital camera and a phone. You take photos of them and what they have done, then call the police from the location and ask whether they want to come out. If they don't, ask who to email the photos to and where you can make a statement.

Any group with the word "Against" in its name is usually a hate group with a vigilante mentality and no real organisation. In a way they are handy, as you can use them to show that the people who oppose you are crackpots and criminals.

Up here in Brisbane, mountain biking is gaining acceptance and lots of trails are shared by walkers, horses and bikes. Many trails are officially sanctioned as MTB only. I can't help thinking that if it weren't for the fact that so many different interest groups want to enjoy the bush, most of it would quickly be bulldozed by developers.

What she has done is criminal and I would be insisting that the police follow it up. As a dirt bike rider have come across this several times and know of several people charged. A young guy was killed several years ago east of Perth by such a wire.
I believe everyone is entitled to enjoy their chosen pursuits as long as they act responsiblly. How could Mountain Bike riding be deemed offensive?
It annoys me when others think they can impose their thoughts onto others like this.
