    MTB Haters

Went for a ride with my 13yo son yesterday along the 6.5km MTB track which the local cycle club has been building over the last 6-8mths in some council designated land/reserve. (In actual fact its part of an old disused garbage tip which is being returned to native bush albeit with all the scarrs of the previous use of bulldozers etc etc - hardly a 'pretty site').. We rode one circuit of the track and went back for second. During that 40 or so minutes it took to do the first a 'nice lady' and her 2 adolescent children had ripped off some of the track indicator signage paid for and put up by the cycle club, strung string across the track at head hight, shifted dozens of old tree roots, trunks, rocks into piles on the track etc etc and generally wrecked passage along the track. I rode passed her and she claims the track will only attract motor cyclists, is damaging the environment, is attracting people from other districts to come and ride, is scaring the kangaroos off and damaging banksias, waratahs etc... Long and short other members of club also turned up (unplanned) and there was a bit of verbal toing and froeing... Some people think they own this world .... she considers herself saving the environment from those aweful mountain bikers yet becomes a self made policeman, throws out any credibility by shifting logs and rocks which as we all know are small creatures homes and then threatens the safety of riders along this track... grrrrrrrrr

what you do is strategically wait till shes just finished shifting a log onto the track, is just walking off then do a bike abandon off of it at about 40kph and plough into her stating that you had seen her and had picked a line to pass her but there was a log in the track that wasnt there 25 mins ago when you did your warm up lap.

Perhaps let her know she has won the council has decided to close the track..... snd reopen the tip as there is a lot of asbestos being removed from buildings and they don't want to bury it at the "active" tip for fear of the dust particles..... So how supportive she becomes of the track then!

This sort of thing gets my goat, it's like people that move near an airport and then complain about the noise!

    Better yet, Sue the bitch
You have a legal right to be there with your children, and she's endangering their health and safety.

These people give me the @%$**. I do heaps of MTBing around Melbourne (Youyangs and Lysterfield and other areas) and although there is hardly ever any problems you still strike the odd loony tune.

They live a mostly pathetic life, have little or no real knowledge of what they preach and are hypocrites.

Next time you see her, ask her apart from actually disturbing the area herslef, what else has she done for the planet, probably nothing. Most likely would be the type who is a 'do as i say, not what i do'.

Just like some of these global warming idiots who tell us to go green and turn of our lights and ride a bike and catch a train and blah blah blah .... then when they are finished they get a chauffer driven limo to the airport and fly to the next country to blah blah blah ...... idiots.

Like Roothy once said, (as best I can remember), "The difference between 4Wd'ers and Enviromentalists is that 4WD'ers are the ones out there doing somthing about their enviroment, and enviromentalists are the ones sitting at home complaining that something should be done."

...I once had this happen to me. Kid thought it would it be funny to sit by the track with rope tied to a tree... being coathangered at 80k/hr hurts!!! woke up 2days later in hospital.

this behavior is stupid and can hurt people.
but there is not much you can do.

    Take care.
    cheers steve
