Cert IV in what?
I ask as there are different codes of conduct or expectations on different members of the community eg medical professionals, educational professional etc etc etc.
Sorry,
John but that is why there is legislation in place for this type of thing to protect minors and why the police are looking into it.
You have mentioned harm, what about psychological harm? and as per a previous excerpt published, what about psychological effects down the track?
Now I may be sailing close to the wind on this issue, but it is something I will go to the wall on. It is fairly clear on some peoples thoughts on this issue on the forum and where it is headed for those of us that do not share the same view, which is sad.
How you bring your kids up and what you do in your home is your business, but when it is made public in the guise of art or whatever else it becomes open the the wider publics opinion, morals and legislation.
How can a minor contemplate what effect this will have on them in the future? So far there has not been one compelling reasonable argument to support these types of pictures, but plenty against. I am sorry but "its my choice" is just not an answer when it concerns the welfare of minors.
I just hope this poor young girl is going to be able to cope with this. If she can great, but if she can not it could be devastating.
Do not get me wrong there is nothing wrong with nudity and tastefull pictures, but the subject must be emotionally mature enough to make a well informed decision. and at 13 that is just not likely.
Also you need to read some of the conventions and legislation in place to protect childre. I read quite a bit of these when doing research for my cert IV and this is pretty much a breach of most of these. While conventions are not law they are general agreements by countries involved.
How anyone could stand up and say this girl has not been exploited defies logic. There is too much self interest here. The protection of the childs physical and emotional state must always come first. If an artist intends on doing this type of thing the anonymity of the subject should be paramount.
The sad thing is this moron who calls himself an artist has got his publicity and notariety from us and will probablly make more money from it.
Qualify : John this is not a personal attack on your way of life in the least, you are entitled to live the way you see fit as long as it stays within the law of the day. I hope there is no real offence on your part.
Well that is my final say on this subject as I think most of us know where we stand on the issue. The courts will eventually decide, I supose.

Bad news I'm afraid......

I'm with B92_8NW,
I would hate to have some of you on a jury, judging whether I'm guilty of a crime (unless you were biased in my favour
). A number of you have already decided that Henson is guilty.
Yours in trepidation,
Bill Henson 'obscenity' case close to collapse | NEWS.com.au
A bit like this forum:
"These messages give us faith that our society really is as we believe it to be - one that is open to frank debate and inquiry and not afraid to voice differing views.''Investigation
An investigation into the photographs by the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) has been completed and submitted to NSW Police.
Central Metropolitan Region Commander Assistant Commissioner Catherine Burn said police were obliged to investigate the works following complaints from the public.
"Police did receive complaints and this has been a matter of significant public concern and debate. This is a complex area of law,'' she said.
"Matters involving the law and art are notoriously difficult and that is why police sought this advice.
"We looked at the possibility of breaches of the Crimes Act. The advice given to us is that a successful prosecution was unlikely.''
The Classification Board's latest review of Henson's work looked at a May 25 online blog which included a photo of naked adolescent female facing the camera, her genitals obscured by shadowing and her arms.
Her breasts were visible.
"The author refers to the image as the one 'that has created all the fuss amongst Sydney conservatives and led to their moral outrage,'' the board's report says.
"They are suffering deeply from a big disgust at the sexualised images of naked children. So here we go again on another round of banning and closing down art exhibitions'.''
The board ruled the image appears legitimately within the blog, but should be classified PG.
"In the board's majority opinion, the content contains an image of breast nudity that alongside text which includes references to child pornography, pedophilia, child sexualisation and exploitation, creates a viewing impact that is mild and justified by context,'' the board report said.
The works were expected to be returned to the Roslyn Oxley9 gallery, police said.

best quote on the subject so far in my opinion (quoted from crikey)
Tasmanian Liberal Guy Barnett devoted quite a bit of time in the Legal and Constitutional Affairs Estimates hearings Monday before last to demanding to know from Mick Keelty why the AFP wasn’t pursuing websites that had carried the Henson photos that morning. Keelty, for once the voice of moderation and sense, patiently explained that the AFP had real child abusers to pursue and only limited resources with which to do so.

I've seen only one (censored) image and wasn't offended by it. I'm glad common sense has prevailed and that the police are not pursuing it.
I haven't read all posts in this topic and I doubt I will.

I personally find it sick that any decent person finds a difference between some low life scubbag like hensen who takes nude photos of pre adolecent children for the sole purpose of selling them and it's called "art" and 2800 others who are now ( rightfully so ) facing pediphilia charges because they gave the same type of pictures away for free on the internet.
And before you go saying there is a difference between the two, read back through this thread and see how many others with children are offended by Hensens low life act.
Hensen has done exactlly the same as the OTHER pediphiles be he's getting away with it because he's selling his photo as art, what a total load of BS.
This is one time when it's a shame he's not living in the US, as by now some would have fixed is arty ways for good.
I've been reading the same things from the same people for the last 8 or so pages now... we are going in circles.
The OLFC says 'case closed'... can we get a thread closed? Nothing is being acheived anymore that hasn't already been, 160 posts or so ago.
