As you've probably heard, I had another retinal tear so that meant another stint of surgery.

Unfortunately, the first operation caused the cataract in the left eye to get worse. That meant the surgeon couldn't see into my eye to fix the retina.

Consequently, he had to do a lensectomy (removal of the lens in the eye). Normally, this isn't a problem, they usually fit a lens implant. However, they were unable to get any measurements off my eye to select an implant.

So, at the moment, I don't have a lens in the left eye so my vision is impaired. I saw the surgeon today and I should be able to get an implant in a couple of months.

At least I'm up and about now and not required to spend my day face down.

I won't be spending as much time as usual on here as reading a screen isn't that easy as I'm left eye dominant and it was the left eye that had the problem.

My post count has taken a beating having not been on line for a couple of weeks!

Dunno if I'll have to sell the Disco, the eye repair bills are up to over $7,000 so far.

    Thanks John.

Driving will be a learning experience. The lack of binocular vision means no depth perception so knowing where the LHS of the car is will be a problem.

My father lost his left eye when he was 9 years old and he's coped remarkably well, trained as a fitter-turner, then mechanical engineer. He's ridden motorbikes and driven cars all his adult life.

I can't return to work until the introduced gas bubble in the eye dissipates. I work mainly in the Blue Mountains and increasing altitude is a no-no with the gas bubble. I'll run out of sick leave in a few weeks so I'll have to ask Staff Office to find me some work in the Metro area - unless I take some holidays or long service leave.

    Hi Ron,
Sorry to hear of your eyesight woes. I can only say that of all my senses, my eyesight is the one I value most, but sadly, as I age it's the one I most sense deteriorating - I had to start wearing glasses at 42 as my arms had become too short to hold the paper where I could read it. I've now graduated to needing a magnifier hood to work on PCB's and solder small connectors. You have my sympathy.

I was wondering if perhaps you purchased an upgraded set of eye-balls at some stage in your recent life - your story reads rather like another instalment of " My ability to buy faulty goods ...."!!!

Good luck with the recovery - at least it sounds like you're well on the way to being mended. I'm afraid the world will continue on its path to Hell in a hand-basket whether you correct its spelling or not.

Off to hospital in the morning to have a lens fitted to the left eye.

Hopefully, I won't be so one-eyed about things and I'll have a better outlook on life.

It's been a bit of a nuisance without useful vision in the left eye - especially as I'm left eye dominant.

Now I have some idea of what dad has been going through since he was 9 yo.
