With my insurance I've had the vehicle insured for an agreed value (cost an extra $50 p/a), plus the accessories on top of that. As you know, pulling a winch, and difflocks out isn't straightforward. This actually makes my write off value about three times the Red Book value for the car, so it's worth their while to fix panel damage (which is being done as we speak, after I was swiped by a 100 Series on my last trip). Again, good on you for saving your mate.
