    unexpected power

After cleaning the intercooler and hoses yesterday I took elmo for a drive and was surprised to notice a change in performance . I'm guessing that the intercooler had never been cleaned before as it was a big difference . The power was a lot smoother and was not as sluggish off the line .
I did clean a lot of crap out of the intercooler and guessing it was choking the system .
Has anyone else noticed any power change after cleaning the intercooler ?

the early bird catches the worm or as it is up here the early bird gets wet because its raining again! Great1

Interesting that you noticed a difference, mine is due for a filter change so I think i'll give the intercooler and clean as well. The last time i did it I didn't notice any difference, but that was before I had the timing belt done and that made a huge power difference.

Howdy John . yep raining here to which is great . I think if the intercooler had been cleaned before i don't think i would of noticed and difference in power . But when i cleaned mine I used petrol and when draining it out the petrol was pure black . It was a retired couple that owned it before me so i'm guessing it had never been done .

Rain seems popular at the moment. We have had it for the last three days

I cleaned my intercooler at 100,000km. Never been done before. Didn't notice a change in performance as such but I did get much better fuel economy.

I cleaned mine out a couple of months ago. I even spent about 4hrs sitting on my bum with a beer or two straightening fins and pushing grass seeds & bugs out of it. Absolutely no change to performance unfortunately for me, but I can now monitor it and get to know the engine's condition. Make sure you clean out all the air ducts of course or you're wasting your time. [edit. I read it again - you have]

However, I did service it a few weeks ago and adjusted all the valve clearances (I knew they badly wanted some love and I don't think they'd been touched in a while). This did make a huge improvement, it cleaned up a lot of it's fluffyness down low and I think it did improve HP a smidge.

Best to get a mate or understanding SWMBO to watch each valve as you turn the engine from underneath. The order is in the Haynes manual or print the page from RAVE.
