When I was in the Flinders about 5 weeks ago, the guy camping next to me at Rawnsley Park lost 2 Goodyear ATR passenger construction tyres in 1/2 hour on the Boonaroo Prachina track to flint rocks.
He apparently was forced to buy the tyres in Kunanurra because that was all the dealer had.
He abandoned the remainder of his trip as he had no faith in the tyres.
It the luck of the draw with punctures but IMHO you load the dice if you have LTs. My BFG AT/KOS have now done about 70K with no problems except quite a bit of chipping on the rears. This is my 6th? set without a puncture off road.

cheers. i've booked myself in to get the d694lt's fitted on monday. 245/70. my spoare is a brand new michelin xpc 235/70. in an emergency, is this tyre size going to be a problem on the d2? i think the overall diametre was about 14mm larger for the new tyres. or should i get the spare changed to a 245 also.
your puncture story got me thinking. to save opening a new thread... whats everyone's opinion on tyre inflation for dirt roads and offraod?
i'm a country/farm rasied kid, and we went with the keep 'em inflated so the sidewalls arent exposed. i just watched the 4x4action dvd though, and the cooper's guy says to lower the pressures offroad as it helps in preventing tread puncturing.
it makes sense, but surely the serious damage is generally when a sidewall is attacked and then 95% of the time the tyre is destroyed. whereas a punture in the tread can usually be plugged.
we never had many punctures, although this is just dirt road driving and so i guess with the higher speeds, comes greater loads on the tyres. is offroad driving different?
cheers.

well last minute change of plan. i went to TRS for an acoustic cover captive nut and walked out with 5 cooper s/t's 245/75LT. 2 are brand new. well old but never touched the road(still have flashing, complete painted stripes around them, 2 at 75-80% and a spare at 50-60%. all for $500. alot noisier than the synchromes, but i'm really happy with their condition and the price. no plugs in them, no chunking and the used tyres have worn evenly.
