One thing you all have to remember is most drivers get in F1 because the team is sponsered by a company from the same country,they have money or connections.MW got into F1 with determination and talent.Untill you personally do a high level sport you don't have any idea just how hard it is and it is very common for drivers to make mistakes in the lower teams decause they have to drive on the edge all the time to stay competitive.Look at it another way,Toyota have spent 1 billion dollars so far and have achieved sweet F/A.That car is a middle field car regardless who steers it. The racing would be better

I think he is further up the order than he should be take a look at coulthard(certanly no slouch).If in a top team he would be running in top 4 IMHO.He is one of the best wet weather drivers around so he made a mistake on the first lap he was still consistantly faster.When with williams he did the best he could with what he had and what he had was a piece of crap.So i think he has what it takes just needs the right team behind him.

in terms of pure driving pace coulthard is **** - always has been.
he was no 2 to kimi and it showed and when compared to weber is about the same maybe a little slower but more consistent with it
i think the thing with weber as someone else mentioned is he can turn it on for a lap or two but can't keep it up all race.
there is very little gap in terms of pace between all drivers if they were in the same car but there are some who are head and shoulders above and mark weber certainly isn't one of them and never will be. - sorry :angel:

Coulthard was number three in the world more than once behind shumacer and mika hakkenen(Spelling) and as i said no slouch he may of been second fiddle to a couple of drivers but we are talking about 2 of the best teams in the world.Not just anyone gets a ride in these.:mad:

I reckon he is pretty damn good. Yeah, there are probably lots of good drivers out there but to get where he has and then survive there for a few years you must possess pure talent. There has been plenty of drivers come and go since he started in F1.

Yeah, he seems to have rotten luck sometimes or simply stufs up, but I reckon if he can get it all happening at once he would be awesome, he has proven that with his 1 lap acheivments ..... I'm rooting for him ...

Is it webber going off or is it the car?Consistant lap times only happen if the car looks after it's tyres. Pat

when coulthard was in the second seat at mclaren it was for a number of reasons but definately not because of his raw talent.
cheap (in terms of a f1 driver ), very good for p.r. - nice personality and aslo for the sheer amount of testing and his commitment to the team thus improving the car throughout the season for the number 1 driver.
at the time he was number three, f1 was a pretty sad place to be with a huge divivde between the top and the rest - that insn't the case as much anymore but every team still needs a whipping bitch other than the test drivers who will put the time in out of race days as well as doing well on race day's and coulthard fit's that mould perfectly and is good to have on the team
he's obviously talented to have gotten where he is and acheived what he has but he's still **** when compared to the likes of senna, schuey and soon to be hamilton.
as for weber, if he was any good ( by this i mean really good) he wouldn't be driving for red bull - he would have been picked up by now and would have a decent car to drive

ok so he is in the top 15 F1 pilots :angel:

out of how many people running around karting etc... to be one of the top 20 takes more than guts and practice it takes talent.

rally, nascar, v8's, indycar, le Mans etc are all different again and require different talents, but like it or not F1 is seen as the pinnacle of driving.. in which a good 1/3 of the grid get there through $$$ not talent...

not everyone can be world champ - does that make him a failure?? does it make him crap?? in the scheme of winning 5 world championships, yes it does... but in reality only about 20 blokes have a seat in any given year and there are literally millions of drivers who would kill for such a position - he has had one for quite a number of years because he is bloody good, not because of anything else...

in general, pick a sport where only the top 2-3 guys are considered "great" there are very few... most have 10-20 top flight "stars" in a field of hundreds (think the NBA, the EPL, the AFL, rugby league) I can only think of tennis as an exception and that is fleeting for most of the top guys (1-2 years tops). F1 only has 20 blokes to begin with - to get to that level takes a lot of luck? political positioning? $$$? IMHO, the refining process is so all-invasive, only the best can make it on talent.
