    Rockhampton

    Greetings all!
I received a telephone call recently about a possible position in Rockhampton. Sounds very interesting to me. Anyone here who can tell me a bit about the place and is willing to share the knowledge with me? I only know Rocky from above, passing over on some RFDS-flights. Never been there on the ground, unfortunately. What is it like? What about the schools, property and all the other amenities that make life worth living???

    Cheers
    Johannes

And there are people who drive Discovery.

    Oh Rockey

Never lived there but have worked there on several occasion for up to 6 weeks or so at a time. The fist thing that realise its not a coastal town its about 20 ks in land, and 2nd it a blood big rural town with a very slow pace / life style Its prides itself as the beef capital of Aust. I have always found the people to be friendly and helpfull The town has has everything you could want, modern shopping centres and all the nor sporting activies
Since the mining boom at Emeral and central Qld. Rockey has gone a head in leaps and bounds with many support industrys to the mines .
I have allways liked Rockey for its relaxed country life style and weather .

Like the other replies would not live there however on the coast 40 ks East is another story. CQ is not a bad place to base yourself from.

rocky does have all the service and schools that you would expect of a provincial city it is just the attitude of the pre 1970 inhabitants, they are stuck in the 1950's.

I once heard a saying from an Yanks WWII vetern that somes it up " the Fitzroy river is the A hole of QLD and Rocky is 40 mile up it"

Knowledge from someone who works in Rocky:

Rocky is the **** hole of Australia.
However 30Km to the east is Yeppoon/Emu Park/Byfield the ........ (I can feel a female body part analogy coming on) of Australia

A fair amount of people who work in Rocky live in Yeppoon and commute daily, so live in Yeppoon and car pool it in to Rocky.
Accommodation is a bit on the expensive side due to the mining boom, so just be a bit weary.

There is a local 4by club "Welcome to CQ Offroad Club Inc" Index page I have never been myself (mainly due to laziness) but would love to.
And one of the best LandRover mechanics is Aus: Graeme Filer at the "4WD Repair Shop"

As to the "Lights that spell HELL" some people have too much imagination and not enough brains, its just like seeing elephants in the clouds.

Where abouts are you thinking about working?
