Sounds like Rocky can be described as a typical Country Australian town

If you were born there, you either get out or die there

If you move there, your great grandkids will be classed as locals, you, your kids and grandkids are still blow ins.

Everyone will say g'day, yet no one will talk, you will get RBT'ed by the local police almost daily until they see something to fine you with, be it a bald tyre, broken blinker or 1km over the speed limit, at this point providing your not a total ratbag you can drive at 110kph in a school zone and just get a wave and a nod.

Commodities will either be dirt cheap if mass produced locally or bloody expensive (this is dependant on location)

On the realestate side of things, if you rent a place you'll most likely be shown the rental list of all the dodgiest and cheapest houses in the town until you specify you want something decent and don't care what it costs, then the other local rental list immerges.

Just my experiences, I wouldn't move my family to another country town unless there was some serious money on offer.

I was born in Rocky, but raised in Yeppoon. Now live/work in Brisbane.

Rocky isn't too bad, as long as you don't make it your relaxation place.
Like others have said, the coast is definitely the place to live, and north of Yeppoon is a great place to play... I go back regularly just to kick back and relax.

Rocky has it's fair share of rednecks, but, on the whole, the farmers that come in for the weekend (for sport etc) are generally not bad, and good fun. As a gross generalisation, the miners are more irritating (more $$$ = bigger a*holes).

Another plus for Rocky is that there's an A-grade Landy Mechanic (Graham Filer)

    Cheers.

was flown there for a possible job and was given the 3 hour tour of the town, large country town all the shopping centres and movie complex and fast food outlets you'll ever need, housing aint cheap on par with major cities and neither is rental proeprties.

Housing stock varies from should be condemned as drug house to modern dwellings.

Didnt get the job so the missues was happy with that outcome after her tour of the place

I put an application in the other day for a position in Rocky. Well three positions spread over Central West Region.
The way I see it is every town has its pluses and minuses. Wherever it is we go I only plan on staying a couple of years unless we really like it.

The way I see it mind you capital cities aren't all that crash hot. Can't wait to get out of Brissie but then this is where I grew up.

So Jojo what happened with your job offer? Did you take it?

I have got an interview up there next week. Position can be in Rockhampton, Mackay or Emerald. Better finish all those things off on the house I've been putting off
