Thread: Reversing a boat trailer behind Defender

I used to stick the rake and broom into the corners of the box trailer at the tip/dump/transfer station.

You could put on one of those tall flags that they put on kids bikes but people will snicker (of course a real man doesn't care if people snicker). As with most things: no I have never been in this situation and have no useful advice to offer.

Better to be sniggered at because you need flags to reverse a trailer you can't see than to be sniggered at because you can't...

Alternately, use the force!

Taking the spare off helps

To see, you're up in the headlining & off the pedals. Stick it in low & let it walk down the ramp. Its an aquired art but it can be done.

In my view the only solution is practice, and always make adjustments subtle

Pop some cones on your driveway and just keep trying until you get the feel

I don't have a boat trailer, but my box trailer is, when without its canopy, invisible out the back window. However, you can just see the two mudguards in the mirrors, so I back it using these.

Using low range and taking it slowly helps, as well.

Just stand a fishing rod up at the rear of the boat (transom) in the center (motor) and just keep the rod (when reversing) in the center of your window

I tried using the mirrors but couldn't quite see the trailer - ended up having my mate stand on the trailer so I could "see" where it was tracking and he could direct me left/right. Not ideal but no big drama in the end.

Perhaps we should just get a bigger boat.
