    Off to the Ice

Looks like I am off to the ice again this summer.

I was first reserve behind a chap who works in our Antarctic section in Hobart (he gets the berth automatically if he wants to go), but he has pulled out.

Excited but still shell shocked because it means going to Hobart mid-September, away for six months all up, so lots to get organised before then. Still not 100%, they have to find someone to do my job here but at the moment I'm the only one who has the experience and has done all the medical, psych tests etc.

I thought the stays would be shorter now that you can fly in/out? Or is that just for the privileged?

I turned down an opportunity in the late nineties to go down there and commission some gear, boys were babies and I didn't see the Mrs coping with me being away for that time; always regret that decision

    Oi! It's octogenarian!

Yes, the eye is improving, thanks Justin. If I met you again, I wouldn't know at whom I was looking (which is a good thing!).

I tried feeling younger every day but the police locked me up....
