Hi Guys;
My teacher is leaving to start a full-time job down at miller TAFE ,we're getting a replacement teacher in new year
he came over tonite and asked me if I wanted to do some Copper TIG weldingNever done any welding on Copper. not even sure if I'd be tig welding copper anyways but it's good to know..
previously I practiced quite a bit with Stainless and mild steel , But found copper PITA to weld as you don't seem to get the same capillary action as you would with stainless or mild steel and you need to keep the arc on the weld longer as stuff has a much higher melting point than steel.
anyhow Really enjoying this course and am hopefully moving onto more adv course next year . This is the TIG machine I'm Thinking of getting.
- • AC/DC/HF operation
- • Duty cycle: 30% @ 200 Amps
- • HF start TIG, Lift TIG and Stick weld operations
- • DC TIG mode capable of welding mild steel and stainless steel
- • AC TIG mode capable of welding aluminium
- • Compact, lightweight and portable
I had to weld this little pressure vesel out of Mild steel and have it pressuere tested , probably not the best TIG welding job you've seen but it passed the pressure test....

Hi people;
Anyone wishing to Enrol this sememster , Classes start next Tuesday , I don't believe it's too late to Enrol and from what I can gather there was NOT a huge turnout of students last week to enrol in the "mechanical trade" certificate , so there are still places available . hope to see you there in the class room to do some welding .
Hey khos.............last time you put this up about the college moving etc and asked if anyone wanted to join, (as you said you would like to meet pthers from aulro) I said that both me and ian were interested and asked some questions but you never replied.......
we would really like to do it but next tuesday is probably not enough notice now
Our Land Rover does not leak oil! it just marks its territory.......
Sorry Lou if I hadn't responded to your Post , But that was the "fabrication course" that was due to start this semester ,the Northern institude of TAFE had plans at the end of 2008 to Move all the Fabrication equipment over to "meadowbank" from "North Sydney" TAFE to kick off this NEW course as off semester 1 ,2009 , however this never "eventuated" ,they will try and kick off the "Fab course" in semester 2 of 2009 if they move all the equipment in time for semester 2.
However you're more that welcome to join me on tuesday and wednesday nights of everyweek to do the MMAW/GMAW/GTAW courses which have and are still running. They costs around abt $335.00 per semester .re: fabrication courses, I only found out myself that it won't kick off this semester only as off last tuesday
Edit: and if you're worried it being such short Notice , 'well' You still have plenty of time to still Start the aforementioned courseplenty of people started 2-3 weeks into the course and there is 18 weeks of welding and trust me , you will have plenty of Practice.
That's if you're serious about it.![]()
