Where's the 'new Noosa' up at Gladstone area?

    Tannum Sands?

I worked at Boyne Island on and off for a few months (just near Tannum) and still never got to see it.

Yes I've been to 1770 and Agnes Waters. Wouldn't say it is the new Noosa but it is a nice place.
When I was there last they were changing the motor in one of the army ducks. It got swamped but they wouldn't tell me how. It was on a tour at the time.

Actually it probably is the new Noosa as it is currently what people would remember Noosa once was.

I think what they have done with one of those fuel storage tanks in Darwin is brilliant.

When I saw them about 10 years ago, they had use one of them for a photographic display. You walk along the duckboards in the dim light. Every few metres you come to a group of WWII photos. Each group is on a particular theme, such as prangs.

Each group has its own little pool of light and the rest of the tunnel just gets a little bit of indirect light.

I think it is a very appropriate use for a facility which I understand was never used for its original purpose.

My description does a very poor job of conveying the atmosphere created by the subject matter of the photos and the lighting employed.

    Well worth a visit.

I love this sort of stuff and believe there is a hell of a lot out there that unfortunately due to the age of the vet's we will never find out about.

My grandfather used to talk about the tunnels and bunkers in Melbourne alot..When he first enlisted he was at Camp Pell and told me of many such tunnels and bunkers around Royal Park......I did read that there has been cave in's in the area that they have had to fill up in the past.

There were a lot of rumours that Macurthur's headquarters was based at Melbourne Boys High School and that his escape route exited via Anzac Tunnel...Well i have walked Anzac tunnel and there is no sign's anywhere that it leads into the school..However i have been told that there a few suspcious looking brick walls and steel doors welded shut within the school and stories that stundents were to be expelled if they were caught attempting to gain access.

Interesting stuff,i use this site a lot Bunkers, Tunnels, etc in Australia during WW2

has some good info and it does get updated sometimes
