    completely over it

I just paid out four figures with a leading 2 to have my Disco cured of oil leaks. It needed new oil cooler lines, new pas lines, new vac pump, new pas pump, new rocker cover gasket, new wheel bearings/seals and a few other seals to keep fluids within. It was perfect for 48 hours. Behold the mighty flood, now it needs its rear main doing and my bloke reckons its easiest to drop the automatic to get to it, to the tune of another four figues with a leading 2. A few LR mechanics have said "oh the 300Tdi does have a few rear main seal issues as they changed the way its fitted".

No way am I paying to have this done, sorry but it's going...

Replacement is a VY S series II, 2004, black, 44,000k, FSH immac etc.

Sorry to hear about all that Joel. It sounds like your mind is made up though. I to have felt the same way. Maybe I was lucky enough to be able to afford things and have the time with it off the road that people can't always do.

Best of luck with the replacement!

That must have cost an absolute bomb to have done by someone else. That's why Land Rover owners need to be able to do the work themselves. They are an enthusiast's car for sure.

As for fixing oil leaks........I don't bother anymore unless it's an easy fix or needed for safety. Keeps the rust at bay. Besides you would go mental if you worried about all the leaks.

    Good luck with the Commodore.

By the way. How much for the Disco?

Joel, take a minute & breathe or you risk doing a foofer valve as well Are there parts of the job you can do yourself? I've had 2 cars in for services this week $900 for an 80K service on a 2005 Hiace inc 2 new tyres & the disco for a 120K serv plus some mods which will cost higher than I can count. Whatever vehicle you own it will cost you, not to mention what you lose in depreciation.
Good luck with whatever choice you make.

My rear main seal has been leaking for as long as i can remember. It doesn't really effect oil consumption much at all i've just learnt to accept it. Replacement seal is about 90 bucks. To do it yourself is a good days work or pay someone to do it for you about $750. That is why i've just left it. I also have 06 model focus that just had to new cv's and fuel pump replaced. lucky it was under warranty, hate to think how much that would have cost.

Sorry to hear about the demise of your Disco man, but I’m with the other Utemad, if it aint fatal, I don’t fix it, and even then I will give it a go myself …….

    Anyway…..

I can't speak for Ricey, however, I think the foofer valve is a mystical type O ring contained within ones body south of head region.

If one was to blow ones foofer valve then one could assume that the consequences would be horrific, as it is believed that said valve is connected to an area of the body that rarely see sunlight.

There have been murmurings in the past that if ones foofer valve was to ‘give way’ then there is the very real possibility that it could cause a catastrophic chain of events culminating in what’s known in my world as an MBC (Massive Bowel Collapse) …. Now that’s another story.
