Long bath for the Disco
Hi All
Just last night I took a detour through the bush on the way home. I often take this detour, so I was quite surprised to find myself stuck in a puddle, water up to the doors and the front left and right rear not touching the bottom.
Long story short, I was stuck there for an hour or so, waiting for my uncle to come pull me out. I wasn't expecting to give ol' Petunia a bath, so I hadn't done anything like wading plugs or any of those things I keep hearing about.
What should I be greasing/cleaning/peeing on in order to keep the world (or at lease Petunia) from caving in?
Thanks in advance,
Kim

This is what I'd be doing :
Pop the filler plug for the rear diff and check the oil - if it is milky you've got water in it so change it. Front diff should be OK because the breather is extended in to the engine bay, but check it if you want.
Take the trim off the bottoms of the door jambs pull the carpet and foam up, poke you hand under and check the foam is not wet. If it is you'll need a couple of days with a hairdryer poked under there to dry it. Same deal for rear cargo area
If you have a CD stacker under the seat, and a lot water entered through the doors, it's possibly cactus.
As for the the wading plug, being an auto you only need one on the timing belt cover. Not sure what you can do if water or mud got into the timing belt area. Just make sure the hole is clear so it can drain out and hope for the best I guess.
Others might suggest more things you should check but there's a start.

Ah thats not so bad then.
The water was just pooling at the very edge of the carpet only on the front passenger side. Didn't get in anywhere else that I saw, and the back doesn't have carpet, thats a plus for this situation I suppose.
Thanks

Check out discopete's new thread on wheel bearings in the general tech section too - relevant to your situation
