Carnage... especially when the guy behind the wheel is lead foot
This was near walhalla, I couldn't get up this really steep track on the way to Mt Selma so I pulled off to one side so that the others could go up. Anyway, we decided to get this huge patrol on 37" trepadors and a 6L v8 to pull me up.
We hooked up 18m of snatch straps and the guy tried to start off beside me to the right. For some crazy reason, instead of trying to slowly take off he plants his foot gets all for wheels spinning and the car creeps up about 3/4 of a car length before the tail swings out left and hits my car:
Thankfully it didn't deform the alloy bar... but left a bit of a dent in the rear quarter of the GU patrol.
So we decided that wasn't going to work so we used a winch to get me back onto the track. After we sorted that out, I reversed back down to the start of the hill climb where I stupidly hooked my car up to the back of the GU.
AGAIN he takes off flat stick with four rooster tails of rubble being thrown backwards, most of the way up I was able to keep the strap slack upto the point where I kept getting stuck, but despite being 18m away from him this car was throwing so much rubble at me that the car got hammered with big rocks.
Anyway, he got me to the top, and I didn't realise the full extent of the damage till I washed it tonight.
Smashed spotlight:
Dent in the bonnet:
BIG dent in the firewall!!:
Copped a big rock in the winshield:
and there is a heap of chips all over my ROOF!
With such an equipped car this guy did not need to hit it that hard, and he could have saved me so much damage!!!
The driving style must come with the car
Sure I'm thankful he got me to the top, but this could have been done with far less damage.

Normally when I have recovered someone or I have been recovered there has been an agreement on how the recovery was going to happen.
This is the reason that he needs a 6l v8 under the bonnet, so he can dig trenches in tracks with his 4 excavators bolted to his axels.
I'd send him a repair bill with a nice letter saying that you appreciated him recovering you but because he is an irresponsible git he has caused this damage so it is up to him to cover it.
If that doesnt work just claim through your insurance and give a description of the car and a rego number if you can remember it.
But then again, I wouldnt have hooked up the second time unless there was absolutely no other ways e.g. winching or turning back and if I did have no other choice then I would have asked for him to do it the way I wanted him to and if he didnt do it that way when I disconnected after all that I would have snotted him, thanked him and then still put a claim in.
There's no excuse for that, it was just showing off.
I'd report him to DSE as well as the police for hooning and damaging tracks.
Give him something to think about.

Sorry to hear mate
Hey all that kw so why not use it
Maybe a Tdi defender would have been a better recovery tow option for you![]()
Oh by the way i see your still claiming it as whallhala , you better get the location right for your insurance![]()
Gee everyone keeps telling me that 4wd's need 37 inch tyres and that if they have them they are superior machines. Guess this means that just because a track or deep puddle exists doesn't mean it needs to be driven.
Commiserations on the damage and i hope it gets resolved well for you. Guess it shows the mental status of the tonka tuff (get a bigger hammer) crowd.
