This is the reason that he needs a 6l v8 under the bonnet, so he can dig trenches in tracks with his 4 excavators bolted to his axels.

I'd send him a repair bill with a nice letter saying that you appreciated him recovering you but because he is an irresponsible git he has caused this damage so it is up to him to cover it.

If that doesnt work just claim through your insurance and give a description of the car and a rego number if you can remember it.

But then again, I wouldnt have hooked up the second time unless there was absolutely no other ways e.g. winching or turning back and if I did have no other choice then I would have asked for him to do it the way I wanted him to and if he didnt do it that way when I disconnected after all that I would have snotted him, thanked him and then still put a claim in.

There's no excuse for that, it was just showing off.

I'd report him to DSE as well as the police for hooning and damaging tracks.

Give him something to think about.
The guy was a dipstick yes. And the damage could have been avoided.
But talk like this will only make people more reluctant to assist in recoveries and the like. Lets head down the American path and just sue everyone, so no one is prepared to offer assistance.
I have seen the result of apathy, because people are to scared of being sued to many times.
This recovery was done incorrectly and ther is no way I would have let him have a second go. Something else to consider is a truck with that sort of hp is going to spin the wheels with even light throttle.
The simple fact is if you are not happy with the recovery style of the person assisting do not let them do it. If you do let them do it you have to be prepared to accept any damage for their good will.
Recovery and plans for recovery should always be talked about prior to doing it so everyone concerned knows exactly what is expected.
However things do sometimes go wrong.

    Sorry for the damage.
Been close to that sort of situation but my rig was spared as we say how they recovered Defender Zooks. After seeing how that was done Disco Steve who was my winch bitch and I agreed one try and then get the winch out and use it before anyone could get near my rig to do a recovery their way.

    Thanks for the replies.

Yeah, I agree. It is as much my fault as it was the other guys. A the end of the day I was given a hint of what he was like when he kissed my bull bar and then I hooked up again. Good way to learn a lesson.

While I could kick up all sorts of a fuss and start sending bills and what not, he didn't have to help me and his car also copped some damage from the recovery. So I have to keep in mind that he was there to help.

Sorry to see the damage to your landy, but why the heck were you being towed with a snatch strap in the first place? Also why were you willing to go back for a second try?

Well, the first thing I am doing it buying myself a small car. So then I don't have to depend on this one as my daily driver. It's crazy to do what I do in this car and then expect it to get me to work the next day.

After that. I'll hunt around for my next project car (either rangie, disco or a county/defender) and while I work on that I'll keep using this one off road until it is finally retired.

Don't know how I will retire it yet thought.

Shame about the damage mate - yep the weekend was a busy one for recoveries - this trip had about 12 in 2kms and this guy did it each time - shows what a bit of common sense can achieve. So dont necessarily bag all drivers of GU's - hell I am an ex-nissyotamitsu driver

Wasnt anything serious I'd just reversed down to do recoveries and the tyres couldnt clear enough after sitting in the spoonie, and no amount of right foot was going to get me up.
