    How do i get the shafts out of a R380 5 speed gear box ? it has me stumped on how they come out .

    This might help.
    Using a V8 R380 in a Tdi

    That thread will get you up to the point where you then take the layshaft off. For that operation you need a a tool that has legs and locks the layshaft whilst you undo the nut. I didn't go that far, nor did I pull the mainshaft apart (Which will require a press). Best refer to the R380 overhaul manual at this stage, as re-assembly requires clearances to be checked with a dial gauge.
