On paper the BMW seems to stand up fairly well against the others...
Depending on the model of BMW i'm looking at the 1995-1997 years. And I chucked in some other car stats as well. 8.0-8.4/10 appears to be alright to me. See below.
In anycase, my original post was about what to look for when looking at these cars. I am looking at the other brands but they simply are not appealing to me.
F4, thanks for you input on the E30 models... but I don't think I like the look of those. I much prefer the E36 series, but it is interesting to know that these were built outside of germany. That Ebay one you pointed out had pretty high K's! 300,000! The 316's I've looked at so far have had 100-150,000. I might look at some of the 6cylinder 3 series cars too. 316i's seem to be a fairly uncommon car, and being underpowered that might start to annoy me later on. I think I'm going to have to test drive more cars to get a good idea.
