you're obviously a V8 guy, but if you wanted to ad a bit of rice to it, Im pretty sure an sr20det's fit nicely. Do iT!

mate had one from new and it drove him nuts

it had a lot of small nuisance issues, rattles, locks not working, trim breaking, that sort of thing. other than that i believe it went well.

he ended up doing some deal to get out of it early.

A mate of ours has just bought a bmw 318is i think thats what it's called
He took me for a drive and it seems to get up and go pretty well!! and it is really good on fuel.

I have had a few bmw's and missed out on another one last week at an auction. They are awesome cars but you have to be picky about your models as most are good and some are bad. The 316i if underpowered for what you want, dont buy it and make it faster, you will use more fuel and have less reliability than a faster bmw. Look at 318i's or 325i's for loads of power. The e30 around 1990 model is a great buy and top class build quality (last of the german 3's). The e36 was built out of germany and suffered build quality issues, but I have driven a few nice e36's and they do handle well, but these days every p plater thrashes one around so you will be lumped into that category.

I would suggest buying the best condition late model 318is 2 door fully loaded e30 you can find.

I was just joking on the modification of the car. I test drove a 316i today and it felt fine just doing normal urban driving.

I have seen the 318i coupes but to me they seem to be simply a standard 318 with two less doors??

I like the fact that the 316i is actually a smaller car than the 318i, I don't need something so big.

A mate of mine has a 97 316i and everytime I've been in it/driven it, the ABS warning light has been on, no matter how many resets/repairs. It's like any 10 year old car, it has certain problems and certain pricetags to fix them, much like even a LR. To be honest, I don't know if a 12+ yo BMW is a sound proposition for a "sensible" car - certainly desirable, but not particularly sensible.

As far as the power issue goes, even the 318s and 325s aren't road burners. I used to know a girl with a 2003 325i and it was by far the best handling car* I'd ever driven, but it certainly wasn't the quickest thing.

Go a small japper ,it will save you heaps in the the long run
Maybe not so good for the pose factor , but it will save you heaps

All BMW's have a 50/50 weight distribution they all handle well.
Personally I'd look for an E30 323i sports
