Thread: Would you still fly Qantas?

Statisticly Qantas is the safest and my airline of choice. Unfortunately qantas doesnt fly to most of the places I go. So I get stuck with litle regional airlines that have there fair share of problems. In the last 2 years I have had 2 aborted take offs. One in a Brazillia when the cargo door came open just seconds before the wheels came off the ground, very heavy braking pulled up before the fence ,go back slam the door shut and have another go.

The second was on a Foker 100 on a very hot still night at Argyle. The pilot gave it full throtle from the piano keys with brakes on then let her rip, By the time we were going past the terminal I could tell we were not accelerating at the required rate to lift off before the fence. The pilot hit the skids a second later did a u turn and we all went back to the mine for the night while they flew some parts up.

On another trip I was supposed to hop on a beechcraft 20 seater. At the last moment they put me on a Brazillia both aircraft going to the same site.

Half way there the engine cowl fell off the beechcraft in flight and it returned to Perth.

I am a pilot myself (not comercial) and I prefer aircraft without engines gliders. I have met and flown with many Qantas pilots some of the best have contributed to my glider training.

All the above incidents and the fore mentioned ones in this thread about Qantas have one thing in common .

Something went wrong with the aircraft but it landed safely or didnt take off.

This is because the training our pilots recieve is the best in the world the guys that end up flying for Qantas work very hard to get there and they do a very very good job. I have complete faith in these guys and I know that even if they loose critical functions on an aircraft they have the ability and training to get you home.

that site gives the details of the larger/commercial aeroplane crashes from 2000 and 2008. Suprisingly Thai International, Singapore, United, Air France, but that was the Concorde, all appear but some of the accidents could be due to other factors and they happened to be at the wrong place at the wrong time. The site also gives a listing off all the airlines banned from Europe because of dodgy safety standards, USA bans the whole country but most of them are on the DFAT "do not Visit these countries" site. However QANTAS does not appear anywhere. So, as long as you are not flying an African airline or one from central Asia you will be safe so long as you stay on the plane. Once you get off and venture on the roads in the UK then the stats against an accident happening to you change rapidly and not in your favour.

a mate of a mate that i was camping with on the weekend was on flight 30?, two rows infront of where blast happened....premium econmy, just make sure you are not booked into that class
