Bloody fantastic - good on ya.
If you've planned enough to book it that far ahead I'm sure you'll plan to give yourselves time together and time for separate interests so the divorce isn't really an option![]()
Well, not right now but be have booked our cabin on the Indian Pacific - one has to book well ahead..
Elisabeth and I will be leaving Sydney on 4th March 2009 and will stay about three weeks after arriving in the West. We are taking our car (Forester) so we can tour. Then we return to Adelaide to spend a week in SA, then back onto the Indian Pacific to come back to Sydney.
We are doing this whilst I'm still working for the railways and can get the very substantial staff discount. There's no way I could afford the full fare of about $9,500 - yep, $9500 for a sleeper in Gold Kangaroo class.![]()
I really don't know how people afford full fare but the train books out months in advance. If we sat up all the way, we could travel almost for free (plus fuel surcharge).
Taking the car is the cheap bit - $300 over to the West and $100 back!
The scary bit is that in the 38+ years we've been married, we've never been on a holiday of this length together. In fact, we've never been a holiday of this length. We also usually take our holidays separately. I'm not sure we can put up with each other for a month.
Divorce may result. We look at it as a precursor to a possible trip to Europe. Elisabeth would like to go back to Switzerland for a look around at her birthplace. I'd like to have a look at Switzerland, too. However, I may not go as I'm really not that interested in travelling overseas. I did overseas trips in my last job. It could be that we can't put up with each other for that long on a holiday.

Sounds good - let me know when you will be in Perth, and we can get the WAulroians together for a drink.
And what a great bar it is..
Me and 'the boys' drank it dry by Kalgoorlie last time I went on it.
And I mean, all the spirits, all the beer, then the light beer, then the wine, then the port....
As for spending that much time together....
My wife and I love each other very much...
But when we get 5-10 days off we cant stand it
Just so used to seeing each other in little bursts that longer runs are awkward....
We're going to the Gold Coast for Masters in November... Hopefully we wont kill each other![]()

No wonder so many people from Kal tell me it's sometimes a dry argument on the train down to Perth. Should have known it was someone from Whyalla causing the problem.
Ah well - we got our own back a little while ago. A group of us from Kal were out working at Iron Duke a little while ago, and we did our share of damage to the beer supply at the Westlands.
Anyway Ron - good to hear that you've got the holiday planned. I'm sure you and your wife will enjoy yourselves. The train trip is something that everyone should experience at least once. Hopefully, we might get to catch up when you are over here.
And I do hope that you will have a laptop with internet access with you on your trip. Wouldn't want to see the standards on here drop while you are away.
Cheers .........

First of all enjoy the trip - and it will be a fantastic trip where you can drink in the bar and view the country side at the same time......
