Well depending on the rope, it may have anywhere up to a 1000kg load limit. Just like the ones you use to rope and reppel.

I can say though, I would not be so generous as to help pull them out, what better way to snap a axle or do damage to your rover. Max towing weight for a rover, 3500kg, that truck? But I would put a guess at somewhere around the 4500-5000kg. That is being conservative.

I don't understand why he didn't just anchor to a really big tree (which there appears to be plenty of in the general vicinity) and winch himself out???

Yes, I was thinking the same treads. heavy truck tuck in mud, anchored to much lighter rover = pulling the rover closer.

I think it was more case of using the winch rope to snatch it out initially.
    Wrong demonstration, FAIL......

Satic Kernmantle abseiling / rescue rope is rated to 3000kg for 11mm rope and that is conservative. Have seen the testing procedure personally. Well at least the stuff we use is. Personally have cut them down to one thread with a 100kg person stil hanging in a harness.
I carry 30m of static rope for towing, not for recovering a stuck vehicle under load.
5-6mm prussic cord is rated at 200kg depending on brand.
Not sure on dynamic rope as we dont use it. Any mountain or rock climbers on here, but would think it would be similar to static.
Some natural fibre hemp ropes are rated to 1000kg though I personally would not rely on them.
However shock loading on any rope that is not dynamic by design may lead to a failure. Also any knots will reduce the load rating by 30%.
Snatch strap are designed to be dynamic and shock loaded, however can still fail. Snatch strap stitch points are supposed to be what they are rated at eg 9000kg, but some stitching does let go before this depending onbrand, it is not supposed to be the rating at which the strap breaks.

    .
Dynamic is more far more strechy than static. Static's outer core is very tightly woven, where as dynamic's is loose to absorb shock better. Dinamic is used in lead climbing so when the climber falles the rope shoud take some of the shock away. Still take alot of skin off. Static is more for absailing and top roping. Better climbers than me can go futher.
