dave..... possibly pointing out the obvious here, BUT.....

1: you're planning on carrying what seems to be a LOT of gear
2: you're planning on carrying what seems to be a lot of gear that isnt light
3: you're planning on using a vehicle that wasnt originally specified to carry more than 3/4 ton
    4: you're planning on doing 1-3 using a 2.25 DIESEL
5: to compound matters...... you're going to be running it on biodiesel?????

Atm Im working on the theory of those who help out with providing compressor/drive parts will get opening dibs on working prototypes or some free shooting at my parts stash/barter trade deals.

    Dave,
I like you thinking but what does fozzies engine bay look like...
My fender air is just ye-olde disco aircon pressor cos I had it... intake is now from the air return of the provent (too much oil when feeding from the Provent intake line)
Run a large undertray tank but put the air inlet at the bottom and outlet at the top, most vapoured oil will drop out.

I have been known to run the airtools off the fender in preference to my tired old 240V puma as it seems to have more poke and is often more convienient... at idle it will run the rattle gun(empty tank), at "thats a bit noisier than idle" the air output is pretty impressive...My fender system runs at just a shade under 150psi which is just loverly! (no idea of cfm)

Your system however impressive is rather complicated... Take the offer of the york style aircon pump, run a dirty big tank in the tray to give bulk capacity and run a good filter/dryer before your airsprings and other sensitive stuff?

    just my thunks

    1. not really, heavy mechanicing kit, food, water, fuel, some oils, light recovery kit, some spare parts and at this stage me. Im providing a lot of stuff to be taken if wanted/needed and already have 4 offers of space/weight out of those 4 everything I would want to take to support a 20 vehicle convoy of similar vehicles for an around over under and across Australia trip will fit between my vehicle and 2 out of the 4 offers

    2. thats what I get for being a mechanic

    3. no it was originally specified to carry 1.168 tons but I can only get to that if i load it just right, my current loadout not counting fuel but counting all water, food, tools, bits and pieces is still under 500KG so even if I balance it all on the rear axle Im good and as previously mentioned, I wont be carrying all of it

    4. Ive done it using a 2.25l petrol before today the diesels got more torque

    5. not quite, Im going to do it on WVO and if closer to the time I cant get a guarenteed supply of oil then Im going to take an additional 400l in drums I'll refill and abandon a drum near townsville somwhere then drop another drum to be used to get back. what I really really want to do is fill up with 74l of diesel in the starting tank lock it and give the keys to the tank to someone else so I have no choice but to burn the WVO and be very frugal with my actual diesel usage.

If I wanted life easy I would have just voulenteered to chuck a tool box in the back of someone elses car and played navigator for them, but lifes no fun when its all easy.

at the end of the day its pretty simple...

small truck compressor for normal vehicle stuff and the occasional tyre inflate off of the vehicle tank, Big compressor powered on the startermotor setup for bulk inflates.

the compressor I have picked out for off of the engine is fairly small and unregulated will put out 220+psi and I can adjust the regulator mechanism from about 5psi all the way up to 220 psi. but it doenst shift a lot of air which is why Im thinking about the AUX compressor setup. with the WVO system in place and not having a place spare (that Ive worked out yet) to put the main starting battery space up the front end of MR2.25D is getting to be a primium. Thats why Im doing all the mess about prototyping stuff now.

at the end of it all I should have 4 tanks all up
    1. wet tank from engine driven compressor
    2. main under body tank
    3. wet tank on aux compressor
    4. shooter tank

3+4 wont be permanantly mounted to the vehicle but all tanks will interconnect for bulk air storage so while Im driving all tanks will fill but to save compressor run time when on the 12v system it will only fill its wet tank and the shooter tank unless I need to use the 12v system to charge the vehicle system...

which might not be a bad Idea if I have air start as well...

    compressors showed up....

Not rocket surgery people.... (thanks anyway..)

    rant done...

    who ever sent them thanks...

Ive now got the big brother of the little york compressor I was going to use for the engine driven compressor sitting soaking in oil to free up the rings and the bearings and its all looking good for that to be a runner.

here it is in it pulled apart glory the valve plate is in powersteering fluid to get the rust off the surface and hopefully in the next couple of days it'll be together and tested and if it works all good for an engine compressor.

I also recieved this little number which is (by eyeball only) about the same size as the little york I was going to put on but without the regulation gear to let it turn on and off. I have a small startermotor off of a Gstring that I might be able to make a smaller version of the 12v compressor I was going to make,

Depending on which of the 2 compressors (the little one or the big york thats coming over from TimNZ) gives the most practicable result for my project the other will go up for offers.

At this point TimNZ gets the first bite as hes got a compressor coming over and has identified himself as having sent it (dropped it off at dads place so Kind of hard to refute)

If no-one else claims the little compressor or the now undying york I have on the bench then the sparey will go up for auction and the proceeds will goto INC for site maintenance...
