Now this was the subject of a Technical Services Bulletin LTB00153 "Fuel Pressure Relief Valve"

It is now a replaceable part rather than having to deport the entire Duratec donk to Dagenham for deconstruction marked of course for the attention of FOMOCO

Apparently it manifests itself amongst other things as "driveability issues".

Don't talk too soon. Just picked it up and it is doing it again only not so bad. I have called LR Customer Care again and they are sending out the RAC again. I am going to show him the TSB and see what he says. If I have to have it towed tomorrow and they have to look at it again, expect a mushroom cloud in a Westerly direction when my other half goes ballistic....... Oh well, them's the breaks.

We have dropped of the Defender at the dealers this morning and although they took it for a spin, did not find anything wrong. Apparently they did have the TSB that was posted last night and had actually changed the modules over. They are keeping it for a few days so the Service chief can take it home and such to see if he can experience this intermittent fault for himself. Will keep you all posted with the results.

Also, I had a word with the service guys about the crappy door seals in the new Defenders. Looks like the rubber seals that were on the TD5 which form a complete seal on the bodywork have had the rubber piece on the bottom moved to the bottom part of the door to avoid scuffing/cutting the seal when you get in and out.

That's all well and good in theory but it has been very poorly executed. NONE of our door seals have the door rubber meeting the body rubber. I have complained rather loudly so will see what they can come up with. My ideal solution would be for them to spend $10 for a replacement bottom rubber for each door and get a solid seal again on the bodywork.

I armor-all our door rubbers on a regular basis and adjust the doors as needed so we always have good dust/water-proofing. What gives that an 8 year old vehicle has good seals and our three week old car doesn't. If I wanted a brand new car that leaks like a sieve I would have bought a Hilux......

I have on a couple of occasions experienced very gentle surging but certainly not to the extent that you appear to have.Likewise I have had a zero throttle response in third at low speed that has required changing down to second to restore the response from the peddle. At first I thought it was my driving technique. I have read some stuff on UK forums to suggest that it is not common but it does happen.

Neither have caused me undue concern but have been noted for the next service list. After all it should be fixable.

Just got a call from the Barbagallo Service Manager who was a very, very nice bloke to talk to and he has swapped out the door seals under warranty without any fuss. The seals are now all on the bodywork so should hopefully not leak.

Will have to wait and see what happens with the surging.
